On Friday, I reported that it was coming as soon as possible. Timeline on new name unclear, but team felt it was important to remove any doubt about future of the old name, I'm told. https://t.co/1KiDbEeTsr

Fischer: "The new nickname will not be announced immediately because trademark issues are pending...but insiders were told today that the 'thorough review' announced July 3 has concluded." https://t.co/zjyXTUpzM5

Person with knowledge of the situation confirms Washington football owner Dan Snyder and the team plan to announce name change Monday morning.
— Mike Jones (@ByMikeJones) July 13, 2020
Yeah, lots of people saying that’s not the case, but none have covered that building as long as Mike. If he says it’s happening, I believe him.

Washington name to be retired Monday, per @BenFischerSBJ; a replacement will not immediately be unveiled https://t.co/Q2NI5ancfP

This is easily the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Need this logo, the #Redwolves movement is real. pic.twitter.com/S2fhC8l89K

No offense to those trying but if the team has selected a name, they've selected a name. No last night push will make them change their minds last minute.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 12, 2020
Too much to account for: Branding, helmets, jerseys, merchandise, gear, trademarks, etc. etc.

The team should personally tell Kendall Fuller first, then let him officially announce it on his Twitter page
— T M (@reshmanuel) July 12, 2020
Reading the tea leaves, you might assume that the team's new name might begin with an R if a prominent player randomly tweets #HTTR the possible day before a name release. https://t.co/dPHQs8mogm

Jonathan Allen sends Washington Twitter into frenzy with 'HTTR' tweet https://t.co/gwckvLQpdl

Damn it’s official The Washington @redksins are now the REDWOLVES HAHA wow that made my day #FREE58 pic.twitter.com/wjH4AQzmtS
— SACKMANLIVES (@JuniorGalette93) July 12, 2020
My first time responding to an egg but I must say he is 100% right. I broke the news about #BruceAllen and the posse getting fired like a week ahead of time #Sources #RedWolves *proceeds to howl* https://t.co/o0ly3oSLZI
— SACKMANLIVES (@JuniorGalette93) July 12, 2020
That would be awful but considering I’ve played for 7 years I’ll go with my sources https://t.co/fQNUNDnEU0
— SACKMANLIVES (@JuniorGalette93) July 12, 2020
When they #ChangeTheName, my guess is #WashingtonRedtails . Red Wolves is always involved in disputes and litigation between colleges. Warriors misses the point as far as what is offensive to Native Americans - some fans would still show up in feathers and red face paint.
— Martin McCaulay (@MartinMcCaulay) July 11, 2020
Trademark squatters/trolls have currently got applications in for *every* name option you can think of.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) July 13, 2020
Warriors
Red Tails
Red Wolves
Renegades
Federals
Etc
The trademark issue is only a minor hurdle to jump, regardless of what Snyder's preference is. https://t.co/tQVuMYV7eX
Unfortunately the 'trade mark' issue has been really muddied with misunderstanding in recent days and weeks.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) July 13, 2020
The short version is; whether it's Warriors, Red Wolves, or Red Tails, if Washington/the NFL wants that name they're going to be able to get it. https://t.co/1pIYISVbsN
Additionally: think about the @Redskins_EQ staff (source of this pic).

If name change does go down soon, they’ll have roughly two weeks to get all Redskins-branded items wiped. Wouldn’t it be much more manageable to keep burgundy & gold (likely..) & use secondary mark? #HTTR pic.twitter.com/54OTc7BVL4

While the Washington football team is about to announce its name change I'm told the matter of selling call the shares of the three primary minority owners is nowhere close to being complete

In the latest front office shakeup since Ron Rivera's hiring, the Washington Redskins have fired Director of Player Personnel Alex Santos and assistant director Richard Mann II, sources tell me and @InstantRHIplay for The Athletic. https://t.co/LmwG1gvqNK
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) July 12, 2020
What's crazy is they fired two high level execs in the middle of this re-branding. I mean, there are crazier aspects of firing two high level execs in mid-July but its just weird if they are days away from an announcement. Weird balancing of giant topics there at the same time
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 12, 2020
Not saying they have anything to do with the branding. I'm saying Rivera is wearing a lot of hats already. Trying to balance name change, with training camp coming up, Dan is reportedly in Europe and now you just got rid of two more high level positions.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 13, 2020
Haha

— Scott Jennings (@ScottJenningsHH) July 12, 2020
Yes. The Redskins haven’t performed well in free agency at all. A lot of hopes and dreams unfulfilled. https://t.co/noZFR7GGr1
