NFL still moving forward with training camp schedule

The report dates are set for Browns training camp.

It felt a little weird and exciting today watching the Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates square off in an exhibition game on TV. Sports are trying to come back across the board, and the NFL today did their part in that by releasing the training camp report dates for each team in the league.

Per the NFL’s memo, these are the report dates for your Cleveland Browns:

  • July 21: Rookies
  • July 23: Quarterbacks and injured players
  • July 28: Everyone else

There are still a lot of hurdles to clear in a short amount of time, though. For example, as Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network points out, only 20 players would be allowed in the faculty at a time unless the NFLPA signs off on a protocol for each team:

Despite the uncertainty, Pelissero says that teams are already making plans by sending notices to rookies and booking flights for them to arrive to training camp next Tuesday. How smoothly is this going to go over with all the players in the NFL? We already have one example where Adrian Clayborn doesn’t sound too thrilled about it.

We don’t know what the Browns’ training camp schedule will be this year, or if they’ll even announce one, considering that all sessions in Berea will be closed off to the public. Up to two training camp sessions can take place at team stadiums with fans, but that is only an option: it’s unclear if teams will want to go through the hassle of arranging that in a pandemic season, or if the city/state the team is in would even allow it.
