Among general managers or front-office leaders, who is the smartest? 1) Howie Roseman (5 votes): “If I was gonna go into the lab and build a GM, it’s a guy that can deal with the media, a guy that knows personnel and a guy that knows money. Those are the three things. Howie Roseman is a guy who I think is very good with the media from what I can tell. I know that he knows the money game very well. And I’ve known him for 15-18 years and he’s worked incredibly hard to learn football and how to evaluate to the point now where he’s really good. I give him a lot of credit that he can handle all three parts of the job.” [...] “He knows how to put teams together. And he’s working with a limited amount in terms of the cap. Is the Eagles’ offensive line set to decline? - BGN
There are easily teams who are much worse off. Kelce and Johnson are elite level starters. But it’s also fair to have concerns. Can Dillard step up? Or, if Peters is brought back, can he hold at 38 years old? Is Pryor really ready to start? Just how much will the Eagles miss Brooks? Who is the swing tackle? Who’s the top backup guard? The Eagles have more questions along the offensive line than they’ve had in recent seasons. Jeff Stoutland deserves some benefit of the doubt when it comes to making it work. The line shouldn’t decline to the point where it’s sinking the season. But it might not be elevating the team as much as it has in the past.
Jalen Reagor - Iggles Blitz
Fran shows you Reagor’s raw ability as an athlete as well as his positional skills. We aren’t expecting Reagor to start this year, but he’s got enough ability that he should find a role as a rookie. I know the struggles of J.J. Arcega-Whiteside have made many people nervous about counting on a rookie, but Reagor is a different dude. He plays with a lot more attitude than JJAW ever did. I don’t expect Reagor to be Jerry Rice, but he’ll make his presence known.

DeSean Jackson accepted an invitation to visit Auschwitz during a Zoom call Friday with a 94-year-old survivor of a Nazi concentration camp, according to the Jerusalem Post. The wide receiver was disciplined by the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday for conduct detrimental to the team for his social media posts, which included an anti-Semitic message that he attributed to Adolf Hitler. Jackson was fined, a source told ESPN’s Tim McManus. The wide receiver also intends to donate a significant amount to Jewish community efforts, a source told McManus.

1. I’ve heard everything from the Eagles were too hard on Jackson all the way to they let him off too easy. Very difficult situation. No easy answer, and I’m sure Lurie struggled with his response. Honestly, I think he got it right. Nobody benefits from just cutting him. And nobody learns a thing if there’s just a fine. I wrote when this first happened: “DeSean simply can’t be allowed to put on an Eagles uniform again until he displays a true understanding of why his posts were so incredibly hateful and harmful,” and that’s exactly the route the Eagles took, and I believe Jackson is on his way toward doing just that. And if not? He’s gone. I give the Eagles a tremendous amount of credit for their restraint, because I would guess Lurie’s initial reaction was outta here. But Lurie has never been one to make rash decisions. He genuinely wants his players — and all his employees — to have every opportunity to constantly evolve and learn and grow. And honestly, that’s what we should all want.

Report: Not “a lot of optimism” for the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott to get a long-term deal done - Blogging The Boys
Since the report about the Cowboys being comfortable with Prescott playing on the tag happened there have been reports from the Dallas Morning News and NFL Network that seem to indicate that a deal might not happen. [BLG Note: Dak would be dumb to rush into a deal that isn’t a huge win for him. He has the leverage here ... and that’s bad for Dallas.]
Report: Cowboys “all but given up hope” of Randy Gregory’s reinstatement - PFT
The last we heard of Randy Gregory, the defensive end was “working through the process” of reinstatement in May. Two months later comes word that the Cowboys have “all but given up hope” of Gregory being reinstated from his indefinite suspension. Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram doesn’t elaborate on the reasons for the team’s pessimism in his report.
Report: Redskins will wait until after season to try to sign Franchise Tagged Brandon Scherff - Hogs Haven
The prospects of the Redskins signing right guard Brandon Scherff have not looked good for the past 2 years, and they’re not looking any better today. The Redskins placed the franchise tag on the former #5 overall pick, hoping they could get a deal done. John Keim reports that won’t be happening, and Washington will have to wait until after the season to start negotiating on another deal.
Giants, Leonard Williams “On the same page” for 2020, per report - Big Blue View
Rapoport states that the Giants and Williams are both content with the $16 million franchise tag for the 2020 season, with the hope that Williams’ play this year will earn him a long-term extension for the team. The Giants surprised everyone when they traded their 2020 third-round draft pick to the New York Jets for Williams at the trade deadline last year. Williams’ status with the team was one of the main story-lines heading into 2020 free agency.

We must eliminate hate from the world in every way possible. Anti-Semitism is wrong, just like racism toward black people is wrong. With this newfound voice for players, we will see some stumble because it’s not always easy to determine where your voice fits in the world. The 2020 season will most likely feature men kneeling during the national anthem for the first time—some players and possibly coaches. We’ll also see more players writing op-eds, testifying at state houses and working in a number of other ways. Malcolm Jenkins picked up another job, getting hired by CNN as a contributor. Maybe Ben Watson will be inspired by Kanye West and add his name to the Presidential race. Ben: You would have our votes. If you just want to see guys play football, 2020 might be the year to take a break from the NFL. Guys have a burning passion for change, and nothing will get in the way.

Two things can be true at once: It is good that the Washington NFL team is changing its name, and it is astounding—and shameful—that it still had the name in 2020. The change, which was inevitable from the moment owner Dan Snyder announced a “thorough review” of the franchise’s name on July 3, was confirmed Monday in a short press release. That thorough review is over, and in those 10 days Snyder apparently finally learned what the rest of the world has long known: The name is awful. The review should have taken all of about five seconds and, crucially, should have happened years ago. “Today, we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo upon completion of this review,” the team said in a statement. It continued: “Dan Snyder and Coach [Ron] Rivera are working closely to develop a new name and design approach that will enhance the standing of our proud, tradition-rich franchise and inspire our sponsors, fans and community for the next 100 years.”

It’s unknown what the new name will be, but the Washington Post is reporting that the team’s desired nickname is currently held up in a trademark dispute. Martin McCaulay, a noted trademark squatter who began registering potential team names back in 2014 now has a vast catalog of names under his ownership, making it highly possible one of these names is what the team wants.
