It’s time for the Vikings to take another step

If it doesn’t seem as though there’s as much hype around the Minnesota Vikings as there has been in recent seasons. . .well, that’s because there really hasn’t been. Sure, there are some outlets that have listed the Vikings as a favorite to take back the NFC North crown, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of buzz around them to do much more than that.

Don’t tell wide receiver Adam Thielen that, though.

Thielen sat down with SiriusXM NFL radio and basically declared that this is the year that the purple need to take another step.

“I think it really comes down to, ‘Quit talking about it,’ right? Like, we can talk about in the offseason how great we feel about our team, how great we feel about all the weapons we have and our defense and our defensive scheme, and our offensive scheme, how great all that is. Well, that’s great on paper, but that doesn’t win you games.”

Even with significant departures on both sides of the football this offseason, the Vikings still have plenty of talent, and their Head Coach and General Manager go into this season knowing that this isn’t a “lame duck” year with both of them having gotten contract extensions recently.

This is going to be a unique preseason for the Vikings, with a lot of young players not getting an opportunity to put any game film against another opponent out there with no preseason games. It’s going to weigh heavily on players like Thielen, Kirk Cousins, Danielle Hunter, and some of the other players that have been here a while to help those younger players get up to speed enough to make the expected contributions early on.

Thielen thinks that this team can take another step and put themselves back into contention to bring Minnesota Vikings fans that elusive championship. Is that going to be the case?
