Ron Rivera told his team tonight that he had cancer. "Some were stunned. A bunch came up and wished me well. I said, 'I’m going to be a little more cranky, so don’t piss me off.' "

We love you, @RiverboatRonHC. We’re all with you, Stephanie, Christopher, and Courtney.
— Washington Football Team (@WashingtonNFL) August 21, 2020
HC Ron Rivera wanted to control his message and tell his team when he was ready. He is grateful for all the well wishes and wants you all to know this is highly treatable and curable. “With good treatments and Gods grace, we got this!” @WashingtonNFL #team @RiverboatRonHC

To @RiverboatRonHC and his family, please know you have my prayers and best wishes. Ron, I look forward to you showing the same fortitude and determination as you navigate this as you have in other situations. I can’t wait to see you beat this cancer.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 21, 2020
Adding my prayers for health to the innate strength and deep resilience in @RiverboatRonHC ’s body, mind, and Spirit.
— Jason Wright (@whoisjwright) August 21, 2020
To be clear and specific, Washington HC Ron Rivera has Squamous cell cancer of his neck. He was diagnosed with it two weeks ago. He told his team about it tonight. He plans to go on coaching this season, but has set up backup plans as well.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 21, 2020
More Ron Rivera: “I’m planning to go on coaching. Doctors encouraged me to do it, too. They said, ‘If you feel strongly, do it. Don’t slow down, do your physical activities.’ But everyone keeps telling me by week three or four, you’ll start feeling it.”
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 21, 2020
Ron Rivera to ESPN on his reaction to the news that he had lymph node cancer: "I was stunned. But I was angry because I feel like I feel like I’m in best health I’ve been in."
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 21, 2020
According to ESPN, Rivera declined to go into details on Washington's "Plan B" if he has to step away. https://t.co/9BXvWlxaW9

You got this @RiverboatRonHC! The Washington Football Team Nation is behind you and love you!

1) The avalanche of bad news for a team/org that’s finally doing the right things has to turn around at some point, right?
— WASHINGTON FOOTBALL (@HogsHaven) August 21, 2020
2) I’m going to count on Coach Rivera to kick the shit out of cancer https://t.co/HIEWSqzZZF

Ball tracking and adjusting to the ball are some of Antonio Gandy-Golden’s best traits. Can go up and snag some passes, gives QB a nice margin for error because of his catching radius https://t.co/BCJvzjtv8Y

Some notable workouts, per the transaction wire:
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) August 19, 2020
The #Browns brought in 4 kickers: Nick Folk, Kai Forbath, Matthew McCrane and Cody Parkey
Washington is bringing in 5 OL, including former #49ers 1st-round pick G Josh Garnett
The #Cardinals had a visit with CB Ken Crawley
It makes sense why Washington tried out five offensive linemen yesterday.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 20, 2020
Not seeing Saahdiq Charles today. Chase Young is at practice as is Adrian Peterson and Thomas Davis after their vet day off.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 20, 2020
Bryce Love not practicing today.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 20, 2020
Thaddeus Moss sitting out practice today. Might explain his first couple days - hasn’t looked like his LSU self.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) August 20, 2020
1s out. Cornelius Lucas at LT, Wes Martin at LG, Timon Parris at RT, Troy Apke at FS

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 20, 2020
Washington released G Kevin Pamphile.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 20, 2020
Washington has released OL Kevin Pamphile one day before Steinmetz and a few other OL folks work out tomorrow (if they pass their COVID-19 testing) https://t.co/x9XxwdeB4E

The sky isn’t falling bc of a bad August practice. I like the RBs and think the scheme will create yardage on the edges. But there’s gonna be problems for sure.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 20, 2020
As Rivera hinted at yesterday, Alex Smith just did some 9-on-9 play. Defensive linemen swarmed him pretty good throughout the drill. Nobody came close to touching him, of course.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) August 20, 2020
Antonio Gibson has his second big run of the morning. This time to the right side, finds a crease and scored a touchdown. His burst is ridiculous
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 20, 2020
A few plus later, Steven Sims Jr. motions as if to take the jet sweep. Surprise, surprise Antonio Gibson is trailing takes the hand off, cuts up, stutter steps a defender in his path and gets to the end zone. He’s a cheat code ♀️
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 20, 2020
Also to add, Deshazor Everett had a huge pass breakup working against Antonio Gandy-Golden during red zone 11 on 11. DBs were hype and you could hear him say, “Stop fucking playing with me.” When he made the play. Really good day for him so far.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 20, 2020
Ron Rivera on Marcus Baugh - he’s a young athletic tight end with a lot to learn.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 20, 2020
Cam Sims, man. Hayes big frame to shield throwing lane from Jummy Moreland, who had him completely covered. Caught the ball with hands extended, didn’t allow Moreland to knock it out. Good rep in one on one.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 20, 2020
Washington FT rewind:
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 20, 2020
Chase Young has minor hip flexor. No 11-11 work; shut it down so it didn't worsen. (His Burst is evident).
Some low-key offseason signings getting good run: LB Kevin Pierre-Louis; TE Marcus Baugh
Physical practices. Not hitting to the ground; just physical
After S Kamren Curl dropped a pick, DB coach Chris Harris yelled you him “do you not like nice things!” (Have to admit some of us thought he said “do u not like ice cream.” Thought: oh ice cream is a reward for picks. Alas, “nice things”.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 20, 2020
Bryce Love with the zinger when asked about what he thinks of Ron Rivera. “He’s pretty cool for a Cal guy.” Had a huge grin when he said that.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 20, 2020
Ryan Anderson: "A healthy Reuben, that's the best player I've ever played with."
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 20, 2020
Saahdiq Charles has the talent to be a cornerstone of the new era in Washington. But first, he must grow into the person he says he can be.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) August 20, 2020
After a childhood changed by Hurricane Katrina, and trouble at LSU, Charles is out to prove he can be accountable: https://t.co/n9Z8oUM7ZA

How impressive has Aldon Smith been for the #Cowboys? Coach Mike McCarthy told reporters: "If you walked away from practice, you would say, ‘Hey, who the hell is No. 58?’ You can see his power, his length is extraordinary. ...I’m very happy with where Aldon is right now.”

Two years after guiding the Capitals to the only Stanley Cup the team has ever won, Barry Trotz eliminates his former club. He's on to the 2nd round for the second time in two seasons since leaving.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 21, 2020
The Caps have not gotten out of the first round since Trotz's departure.
If tonight was Braden Holtby's last game with the #Caps, he will be missed. The most accomplished net-minder in team history and an unbelievable asset to the community over the years.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 21, 2020
