Bucs sign former Titans K Ryan Succop

NFL: Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Former Titans kicker Ryan Succop has found a new home, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com. Succop has signed with the Buccaneers per his report.

Succop is entering his 12th season after being drafted with the 256th pick by the Chiefs back in 2009. Succop spent five years kicking in Kansas City before signing with the Titans in 2014.

Succop was extremely accurate for the Titans. He was an incredible find after losing his job in Kansas City. He went 117 for 140 on field goal attempts in Tennessee, and that includes last season’s 1 for 6 mark when he was clearly hindered by injury, one which the team badly mishandled. Succop also hit extra points at an impressive 94.7% rate in two-tone blue.

The Bucs must feel confident that Succop’s injury woes are now behind him.

This signing doesn’t just tell us that Succop’s workout must have gone well, but it also tells us that the Bucs weren’t completely satisfied with the kicking competition that was currently ongoing between Matt Gay and Elliott Fry.

Gay entered camp as the favorite to earn placekicking duties for the Bucs despite hitting at a poor 77.1% rate last season. That’s the sort of “accuracy” that will force your team to search for a new kicker. Succop has now entered the chat.

Succop is a career 82.2% kicker.
