CeeDee Lamb could be utilized in punt return game as a rookie -Joey Helmer, OU Insider
Michael Irvin is a big fan of the newest 88.
Lamb even got a blessing from the Hall-of-Famer Irvin to wear it.
“God has placed you in Dallas for a reason, man,” Irvin said. “Let’s make sure those reasons come to fruition — 88 back in the Super Bowl soon.”
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is excited to see him thrive working alongside other wide receivers Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.
“CeeDee looks very natural out there,” McCarthy said, per team reporter Rob Phillips. “He had a big play in the team period [Friday]. He’s definitely shown the ability to play all three spots in the receiver position, and we’ll see what goes on with punt return and those types of things. But he looks very, very natural on the football field. Excited about him.”

One practice. That’s all it took for wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to make quite the impression with the Dallas Cowboys.
As Lamb, the Cowboys’ 2020 first-round pick, sprinted toward the sideline, quarterback Dak Prescott’s pass was high and a little to the inside. Instinctively, Lamb leaped, twisted his body to open his shoulders and threw up his right hand to make a catch that had everybody in attendance wondering what they had just witnessed.
Lamb just went back to the huddle for the next play.
“I feel like as a receiver, you have to expect the unexpected,” Lamb said. “No matter where the ball is, it’s your job to catch it. The quarterback has done all the hard parts. He got the ball out of his hands. He made checks. He did everything else. Now it’s you. Just understanding that everything is not going to go as planned and the ball is not going to be where it needs to be all the time. Prepare myself for the worst, and when the best happens, it feels great.”

Now at age 27 and entering his fifth year with the Cowboys, Prescott can practice anywhere he wants in the finest facilities the NFL has to offer at The Star or in Southern California where he works with his personal coaches at 3DQB. So, what’s new? Prescott doesn’t even have to leave his house now.
In the spring, Prescott put in a 55-yard artificial turf field, including a 10-yard end zone, built by the same company the Cowboys used to install their fields at AT&T Stadium and The Star. Prescott’s D4K logo is stenciled into the field, as is the word “faith” in the end zone. A silhouette of Prescott pointing to the sky in tribute to his late mother, Peggy, makes up the “A.”
The backyard field was an idea he had a little more than a year ago but became more pressing in part because of the coronavirus pandemic and his contract stalemate with the organization.
It is now the quarterback’s home office of sorts.
“Just to be ready for training camp, not having to go somewhere else and trying to find a field and knowing people could be there filming and watching,” Prescott said. “I’m a guy that kinda likes to work in the dark, I guess you could say. Just come out and show what I’ve been doing. Just give me a sense of privacy, a sense of peace I can have the guys over there and get a lot of work in, still doing what I need to do.”

CeeDee Lamb is already showing that he belongs, and the guys over at The Mothership wrote why that is no coincidence.
Watch the replay of CeeDee Lamb’s latest Camp Cowboys highlight — a beautiful over-the-shoulder catch in stride from Dak Prescott against veteran cornerback Daryl Worley — and you might forget the rookie wide receiver has had 11 total NFL practices.
The 21-year-old first-round draft pick can make things look easy. His fast start to training camp is no coincidence.
Lamb is joining an offense that already has two 1,000-yard receivers. Unlike his All-American days at Oklahoma, he won’t have to be the primary focal point every week.
But Lamb says he has a “huge responsibility” to make the NFL transition fairly quickly “because I feel like I can play early and make an impact on this offense.”

Despite what some popular online narratives might say, Dak was actually really good in the second half last season.
Some of the NFL’s best quarterbacks join Prescott in the top four graded quarterbacks in the second half of games. The second half of football games are normally where games are won or lost in the NFL, and PFF”s grading shows Prescott played his best football in crunch-time.
If Prescott can continue on trajectory that he’s been one for the last few seasons, and the defense and special teams can at least be average to slightly above-average in 2020, there’s plenty of reason to believe that the Dallas Cowboys have a fair shot at contending for the Super Bowl. A lot of that will depend on just how Prescott plays, and more importantly, how Prescott and the Cowboys offense performs in the second half of games, to close them out.

There is a ton of hype surrounding the Cowboys’ offense, but is there any reason to be cautious because of the offensive line?
Unfortunately, the majority of the 2020 Dallas Cowboys training camp has given us a glimpse into this dark world. Tackles La’el Collins and Tyron Smith have missed almost the entire camp so far, nursing minor injuries or trying to get back into football shape.
Second-year tackle Mitch Hyatt left practice this week with an undisclosed lower leg injury that could be long-term. Even free agent veteran signing Cameron Erving has already missed time.
Of course, the Dallas Cowboys are also dealing with the retirement of center Travis Frederick, throwing their interior offensive line into a scramble. While veteran Joe Looney is leading the competition to replace Frederick, the Cowboys are slowing working in guard Connor Williams, back from his ACL tear last year.

There was a lot of doubt that Thompson would even make the roster this year prior to camp. After all, Dallas had signed veteran Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and there was talking that Chidobe Awuzie and Daryl Worley could both be splitting time at safety. After a little over a year in backup role, Darian felt like an afterthought moving forward.
Over the last few weeks of practices, though, Thompson has emerged as a presumptive starter over Clinton-Dix. He has been getting most of the first-team reps in practice along with Xavier Woods and living up to the potential that once made him a 3rd-round pick and starter with the Giants.
Dallas has been working with Darian since the end of the 2018 season, hoping to see him reclaim his career after injuries cost him his place in New York. He emerged as their primary backup last year, having the size and skills to play any role as a safety, and now it appears he’s taking things to the next level.

This was an interesting move by Mike McCarthy.
It stands to reason, then, that other teams — for sure the ones scheduled to play the Cowboys this season — will watch tonight’s locally televised practice from AT&T Stadium.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has made it harder for other teams to follow along and determine who’s who and what’s what.
The Cowboys are practicing without names and numbers on their jerseys. The offense is wearing all white and the defense all blue.
