Giants to air two Blue-White scrimmage specials on NBC

The New York Giants, like every NFL team this summer, will not be playing any preseason games, but they will be holding formal intrasquad scrimmages in an attempt to simulate game conditions.

The Giants will be airing two “Blue-White Scrimmage Specials” to be televised on WNBC-4 on Saturday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m. ET and Friday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. They will be hosted by Giants play-by-play announcer Bob Papa and joined by analysts Shaun O’Hara and Carl Banks with Bruce Beck also contributing.

“In these unique times, we are constantly looking for ways to engage Giants fans and provide more access to the organization,” said Giants Chief Commercial Officer Pete Guelli in a team release. “This scrimmage special will give them an up-close look at how Coach Judge and this staff are preparing the team for the upcoming season.”

“This is the first in-depth opportunity for Giants fans to see their team in action,” said Eric Lerner, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York. “Our two unique broadcast specials offer an exclusive look ahead to the upcoming season, featuring final on-field preparations and interviews with Head Coach Judge, along with many of the team’s brightest stars.”

The 60-minute show will feature head coach Joe Judge mic’d up and will capture the best moments, highlights, and sounds from the sidelines and include interviews with general manager Dave Gettleman, director of college scouting Chris Pettit and post-scrimmage interviews with Giants players.

“This will look a whole lot like every high school and college scrimmage in America,” said Judge. “Offense on one sideline, defense on the other. We’ll create situations on the field and let them play live football all the way through. We have to get an opportunity to let our guys play at full speed. Let them go out there and experience the game and demonstrate they can operate when coaches aren’t yelling in their ears and trying to make corrections. We just have to get them out there and let them play.”

Giant fans are both curious and excited to see how the new roster and coaching staff is rounding out. They will get their first taste of the very vocal Judge, top draft pick Andrew Thomas and the 2020 daft class along with free agents Blake Martinez and James Bradberry.
