We kick off another glorious work week!
Happy Monday, everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Ours was fun, kiddo was out in Montana with his grandparents, so Mrs. Fishin’ and I had the weekend to ourselves. Have any of you ever hit a sandbar when you’re almost full speed with a boat? Well, don’t, unless you REALLY need a workout. We were out on the boat Saturday, and opened it up for a bit to cruise down the river for a while. We’re cruising along, boat’s running perfect, and SPLAT, went from cruising to stopped in about two seconds. There was a sandbar about a half a foot under the water that was completely invisible.....until you hit it. No injuries to either of us or the boat, but we did spend a good half hour getting that thing pushed out of the sand & back into the water. We laughed about it later, it wasn’t as humorous at the time, though. I blame Ponder.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Kirk Cousins and Harrison Smith are on a list of the 30 best players over the age of 30, per Chris.
The Vikings waived OL Tyler Higby, per Chris.
Also from Chris, Cameron Smith is to undergo open heart surgery. Wow, I’m glad they found the problem when they did. Reading his post, I have no doubt he’ll make a full recovery, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the field in 2021. Prayers to him and his family.
Quentin Poling is officially a Viking, and the team waived Tony Brooks-James.
Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:
Vikings.com has highlights from Sunday’s rookie practice at training camp.
From CBS Sports, NFL officials have been given a deadline to opt out of the 2020 season. Hopefully we can get the replacement refs back again.
ESPN highlights the best of yesterday’s training camps from around the league.
Derrius Guice was arrested and released on bond, and is facing a felony count of strangulation, among other charges, per the Washington Post. The Washington football team (am I supposed to capitalize “football team”?) released Guice not long after learning that charges were being filed, per the Sporting News.
Rough weekend for the NFC East. Also from the Sporting News, Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker has been charged with four counts of robbery with a firearm. The charges stem from an incident in May.
We come to today’s media selection:
I love watching this one, perfect for getting in the mood for some football. This is the Favre to Lewis play that set the tone for a very exciting 2009 season. Enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t wash your hands, touch each other’s faces often, and try the finger food
