Good morning, GGN! We are now two weeks away from cut down day for NFL camps. In a normal year the Jets would be preparing for the final “dress rehearsal” for the starters, the third preseason game. They would have already gone through OTAs, rookie minicamp, full squad minicamp, training camp practices since late July, at least one intrasquad scrimmage, and two preseason games. This year the Jets have had no OTAs, no minicamps, no scrimmages, no preseason games and just a handful of practices, many without pads. Full pads preparation for the season is just north of nonexistent. Of course the Jets are not alone in this regard; every NFL team faces similar circumstances. But with a starting offensive roster that is largely new to Adam Gase’s offense, the Jets will be particularly challenged starting the season. Throw in a brand new offensive line with a lot of question marks, and a wide receiver group that is paper thin and searching for somebody, anybody, with significant NFL experience who isn’t washed up, and you get a recipe for another slow start for the Jets. Perhaps the Jets will pull a rabbit out of the hat and surprise with some offensive fireworks, but that’s probably not the way to bet.
