The final practice of training camp has concluded. Up next? Roster cuts.

The Browns’ final practice before cuts are due took place at FirstEnergy Stadium Friday night.

Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report - Day 18 (9/4/20)

1. Practice Shown at the Stadium: After a couple of closed-door sessions, to my surprise, Friday’s practice at FirstEnergy Stadium was open to the media in its entirety, and also streamed on Browns Live. The players did all the normal pre-game routines, like running out of the tunnel from their position groups, stretching, etc.

2. Testing Out Concession Stands: Besides the players going through game prep, so as the facility. Here is a shot of one of the concession stands; I assume the “fans” were friends and family of players and coaches:

3. Going Through the Motions: For the first four “series,” the offense and defense were intentionally running plays at a walking pace, pretty much. As a reminder, the purpose of this practice day was to work on the mechanics of coaches calling plays, the teams lining up in their formations, and executing the basics.

4. Field Goal Practice for Seibert: Although K Austin Seibert consistently makes his average range kicks, he’s still been missing a lot of long ones, and this was a beautiful, non-windy day in Cleveland.

5. Two-Minute Drill: Next up, the Browns went through a two-minute drill, where the offense was losing 13-10 and needing at least a field goal to tie it. QB Case Keenum led the offense against the second-team defense. The offense was efficient in making use of quick throws to the sidelines, hurrying up, clocking it, and then using time outs down near the goal line. On 3rd-and-goal, Keenum’s fade to WR Donovan Peoples-Jones fell incomplete, and Keenum was frustrated with himself for the throw. K Austin Seibert came on for the field goal.

6. Needing a TD With Gilbert: QB Garrett Gilbert had a drive with about 35 seconds, down by 6 points, so they needed a touchdown. Browns Live missed the first play, but they said that CB Donovan Olumba broke up the pass. Late in the drive, Olumba showed great length in reaching up to defend an end zone pass to WR Rashard Higgins. The drive ended when undrafted free agent S Jovante Moffatt picked off Gilbert.

Gilbert got a second crack at the same scenario right after that. His first pass was completed to WR Donovan Peoples-Jones, but he didn’t have much success after that. He threw a couple of passes out of bounds, and then on what would’ve been the last play, there might have been interference in the end zone. The ball was brought to the 1 yard line for an untimed down, but Gilbert’s quick pass to TE Stephen Carlson was a little off target, falling incomplete.

7. Brownies: Although we’ve seen some of Alex Van Pelt calling plays, it looked like head coach Kevin Stefanski took on the duties for Friday. ... S Ronnie Harrison is still going through testing protocols, but will make the team. ... LG Joel Bitonio, DT Larry Ogunjobi, FB Andy Janovich, and S Andrew Sendejo all had the night off. ... Head coach Kevin Stefanski dialed back practice the past two days because Week 1 is coming up, and then the Browns have a quick turnaround in Week 2 since they play at home on Thursday Night Football.

Our 53-man roster projection can be found here. Final cuts are due Saturday by 4:00 PM ET.
