Trent Williams says 49ers’ tight-end depth ‘elite from top to bottom’
The 49ers added free agent Jordan Reed and sixth-round draft pick Charlie Woerner during the offseason. Along with Ross Dwelley, Williams believes the group is one of a kind.
“It’s the best in the league. It’s elite from top to bottom,” Williams said. “Even Charlie, the rookie, when you turn the film on, he’s probably one of the better blockers on the team. Coming from a rookie tight end, that’s saying a lot.”
“Of course we all know what Jordan is capable of,” Williams said. “Dwelley made a ton of plays for this team last year and continues to make plays. Obviously, George is the best in the game. I think our tight-end room is as good as it could possibly get.”
NFL to provide pre-recorded crowd noise for teams to play ...
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Thursday that it will provide a loop of pre-recorded crowd noise specific to each team’s stadium that must be played over the PA system in empty stadiums — and partially filled stadiums, at least to start the season — at 70 decibels starting at kickoff. NFL ops will monitor the audio throughout the game to make sure that the crowd noise does not go above or below the required decible level.
Any person or club caught attempting to manipulate the league-curated audio will be subject to fines, suspensions or potential lost draft picks, Pelissero added.
Daniel Brunskill appears in line to be 49ers’ starting right guard
The 49ers have yet to announce a starter at right guard, where Daniel Brunskill and veteran pickup Tom Compton have been in competition since the opening of training camp last month in Santa Clara. “He understands that his role is to fill in wherever he’s needed, and this year he’s going to have a prominent starting role for us,” McGlinchey said of Brunskill. “And that’s going to be huge, because he’s a damn-good football player.” “The little nuances of all that really makes your head spin, especially when you’re doing it back and forth every day,” McGlinchey said. “But Dan is going to be great.”
“Obviously, Chandler is one of the top-tier guys in the league in terms of being able to rush the passer and set the edge,” McGlinchey told reporters on Thursday. “Extremely talented, really hard-working and hard-playing guy. And his reputation [precedes] him, obviously, for all the things he’s done on the field.
“I definitely feel a lot more prepared (to face him) this time around. The Cardinals game last year was kind of a turning point in my season. I started playing some really good football and took a lot of good things away from that game. Hopefully, we’ll be able to build on what I did all last year at that time.
“I feel really good out of the training camp that I had. I feel really prepared, feel in the best shape that I’ve been in, as confident as I’ve ever been, and excited to get it going. Obviously, you don’t want to do it any other way than getting the best in Week 1.”
