Mariota has been suffering from a pec strain for a little while, and it has limited how much he’s been able to practice. Now that he’s on the IR, he’ll be out a minimum of three weeks before he can return to his new team.

With Mariota injured, Nathan Peterman is the team’s only backup to starter Derek Carr. Earlier on Monday, the Raiders re-signed quarterback DeShone Kizer to the practice squad, providing a little bit of emergency depth for Jon Gruden’s crew. It’s safe to say the team will be eagerly awaiting Mariota’s return so they can have a little more veteran talent at the position.
Mariota signed a two-year, $17.6 million deal with the Raiders in the offseason, after spending the first five years of his career with the Tennessee Titans. Hopefully the rehab process is quick for the former Heisman winner.
