Colts-Texans wild card game thread

The Colts and Texans open the 2019 NFL playoffs in Houston. We break down the pertinent information to get you ready for the game.

And here we go! The 2019 playoffs get going today our first wild card game. The Indianapolis Colts face the Houston Texans in what should be a treat to open the playoffs. The game kicks off at 1:35 p.m. PT on ESPN, with Joe Tessitore and Jason Witten in the announcer booth. I’m not sure what ESPN is doing with Booger McFarland anymore as he’s been in the booth after a combination of bad weather (the Oakland Raiders/Denver Broncos game) and bad press for that Booger Mobile of his blocking fans views. They have said the mobile won’t be showing up today and McFarland will be in the booth. Lisa Salters will be on the sideline.

The Colts had an awful start to the season going 1-5 their first six games. They only lost one more game for the rest of the season after that, an ugly 6-0 snoozefest against the Jacksonville Jaguars. nine out of 10 games still isn’t bad and it netted them a wild card. Their once awful offensive line has been sturdy thanks to 2018 draft pick Quenton Nelson and Andrew Luck returning from injury.

Meanwhile the Texans had a rough start as well going 0-3 to start the season. They wound up losing two more games and went 11-5 to win the AFC North. Slow starts are the name of the game in this one. Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has played very well for 2018 since coming off that knee injury in the 2017 season. A large credit of this goes to DeAndre Hopkins who has been playing lights out for much of 2018, averaging just shy of 100 yards per game (98.25)

The line opened with Houston a field goal favorite, but has come down to 1.5 or 2 points at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. The public has brought this line down, but I still side with Houston in this one. While Indianapolis has a better offense, that clunker against Jacksonville still doesn’t sit well and they are in Houston. I think they can come out late with a last-second field goal.
