Jaguars release Jermey Parnell

The Jacksonville Jaguars continued their cap purge on Friday releasing veteran right tackle Jermey Parnell, according to multiple reports. The release of Parnell frees up an additional $6 million in cap space, pushing the Jaguars to near the $30 million point in room. The move to cut Parnell was expected by most, as he was starting to decline and consistently dealing with injuries the past two seasons.

The Jaguars originally signed Parnell in free agency prior to the 2015 season and started at right tackle for the team through the 2018 season. For most of his career as a Jaguars player Parnell was an adequate right tackle and in 2017 one of their better offensive lineman.

Parnell originally played basketball in college at Ole Miss, however then head coach Houston Nutt talked him into playing football, which led to him playing a few games as a senior at defensive end. Parnell bounced between a few teams in the NFL before settling with the Dallas Cowboys as an offensive lineman.
