Da’Shawn Hand ‘back to normal’ after season-ending knee injury

Da’Shawn Hand feels ‘amazing’ and has put last year behind him.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand was all smiles Wednesday night, as he prepared for the Taste of the Lions event. Last year, he attended the event a nervous rookie. This year, he was confident and wishing to be an even bigger part of the event.

“Hopefully next year they let me have my own stand,” Hand said to reporters. “Something like ‘Hand’s Food’ or something like that. It’s going to be amazing.”

That’s not the only thing that’s amazing. When asked about the status of his knee injury, which caused him to miss the final three games of the season, Hand said all systems are go.

“It’s amazing. I’m back to normal.”

Now entering his second year, Hand is hoping to build on an extremely promising rookie season. He finished the year with 27 tackles, 3.0 sacks and PFF’s highest grade among rookie interior defenders... by far:

And now that he’s had a full offseason to prepare for actual football—not just the NFL Draft—Hand believes his personal training regimen has improved, beginning with time management.

“When I first got here, I was trying to gain my routine, learn my ways around the building,” Hand said. “Now since I know everything or at least know my way around the building, I can hone in on my craft—watching film more, studying film more, stuff like that.”

As far as how last season ended, he’s not even thinking about that anymore.

“I’m not worried about that right now. I’m just worried about getting better day-by-day.”
