Bob Quinn feels ‘great’ about Matthew Stafford as starting QB

The Lions GM threw his support behind Stafford... again.

It happens every year around this time.

Rumors begin to swirl that the Detroit Lions may be looking to move on from Matthew Stafford. Whether it be because of his lack of production (2018), his injury history (this year) or lack of playoff production (every year), someone always seems to throw around a rumor to see if it will finally stick this year.

However, Lions general manager Bob Quinn went on SiriusXM Radio this week and reiterated for the fifth year in a row that Stafford is his guy and he’s perfectly confident in him, even when it comes to his current health.

“Yeah, I’m totally comfortable and happy that Matthew Stafford’s our quarterback,” Quinn said in this radio clip you can hear here. “He’s going to be in full health once the offseason program starts its course. He’s pretty much in full health right now.”

Despite the constant support from both Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia, many continue to believe Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is a realistic option for the Lions with the third overall pick.

However, other analysts, like MMQB’s Albert Breer just don’t see it happening, especially considering the medical red flags surrounding Tagovailoa.

“First of all, the Lions coaches, and really anybody who’s been through that organization over the last 12 years, love Stafford,” Breer wrote in his mailbag this week. “I can’t tell you how many people have come out of that place convinced Stafford is a couple of breaks going his way away from being a top-five quarterback. Second, the one legit reason you’d draft one behind Stafford is because of Stafford’s durability issues. So … you take a quarterback with even more of those?”

Overall, I guess it comes down to how much you believe Bob Quinn. This seems pretty definitive to me:

“I feel great about Matthew. He’s going to come back strong, and we’re ready to go for next year.”

  • Damon Harrison Sr. retirement update: There is no update:

  • Did the Lions suffer an unusual amount of injuries this year? Well, it depends by which metric you use:
