NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah is out with his first mock draft of 2020. He has the Jets selecting LSU edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson with the 11th pick.
11. Jets: K’Lavon Chaisson - Edge
School: LSU | Year: Sophomore (RS)
General manager Joe Douglas is desperate to upgrade the OL, but in this scenario, the run at the position has already taken place. Chaisson is an outstanding athlete and would fit smoothly into the Jets’ scheme.
The run on offensive linemen to which Jeremiah is alluding has four going off the board in the top ten picks. Jedrick Willis goes sixth to the Chargers. Mekhi Becton goes fourth to the Giants. Tristan Wirfs goes eighth to the Cardinals. Andrew Thomas goes tenth to the Browns.
Missing out on offensive line seems like a rough scenario for the Jets. I am sure any defensive pick would draw skepticism, but edge rusher is an important position of need for the Jets and a glaring weakness.
Personally I’m still deciding on whether I like Chaisson enough to be all right with this pick, but there’s nothing wrong with the idea of adding an edge rusher if all of the top linemen go off the board early.
