Browns Jack Conklin: “I am ready to go”

NFL: Cleveland Browns-Training Camp Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Right tackle eager to return to the field for Sunday’s home game against Washington.

The Cleveland Browns continued their preparations on Wednesday for their Week 3 home game against Washington, and the injury news was trending in the right direction for the offensive line.

While starting right tackle Jack Conklin, who missed last week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals with an ankle injury, was limited in practice, he said he will be ready to go come Sunday, according to clevelandbrowns.com:

“The ankle is feeling great. I will be back to 100 percent this week and rolling. Obviously, it is a tough situation on a short week trying to come back after getting beat up. It came down to the wire. You want to be out there playing, but that is why I am here. Hopefully, we do not have that situation again.

“I am ready to go. No matter what, it would have been this week. I am rolling. It is going to be a great challenge for us this week to keep everybody up and keep everybody clean. It is going to be a fun week.”

Conklin’s return is indeed good news as the Browns prepare for a Washington defensive line that leads the NFL with 11 sacks through the first two weeks of the season. Right tackle Chris Hubbard deserves a lot of credit for doing an admirable job in Conklin’s absence last week against the Bengals, but the Browns have to be thankful that they don’t have to roll the dice two weeks in a row with Hubbard.

The offensive line may be whole again come Sunday, but the Browns are still dealing with a few injury issues.

After returning to the practice field on Monday after missing the season’s first two games, cornerbacks Greedy Williams and Kevin Johnson and linebacker Mack Wilson continue to practice on a limited basis. Despite the initial excitement over their return, it still remains questionable whether or not they will be able to play on Sunday.

Not practicing was linebacker Jacob Phillips, who injured his knee in the season-opening game against the Baltimore Ravens, and defensive ends Olivier Vernon and Adrian Clayborn. Vernon missed the game against Cincinnati with an abdomen injury, while Clayborn left the game in the second quarter with a hip injury.
