Colts Work Out Wide Receiver Marcus Johnson

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts worked out wide receiver Marcus Johnson on Monday, as the team looks to potentially bolster its pass catching depth in the aftermath of losing fellow wideout Parris Campbell for a lengthy period of time to a knee injury:

Of course, Johnson was a member of the Colts from 2018-2019 and spent this offseason with Indianapolis before being a part of the team’s final 53-man roster cuts.

The former 2016 undrafted free agent out of Texas has also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks organizations.

At 6’1”, 207 pounds, Johnson caught 17 receptions for 277 receiving yards (16.3 ypr. avg.) and 2 touchdown receptions during 8 games (6 starts) during the 2019 season for the Colts.

Five of those receptions were over 20+ yards—indicating he’s a bit of a deep threat.

His biggest game came against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past early December, when he had 7 receptions for 105 receiving yards and a touchdown reception.

The 26 year old wide receiver was injured during a good portion of this past offseason’s training camp and could never get great footing in a heated wide receiver competition.

However, Johnson already knows the Indy offensive system, and even if the Colts elect to roll with their active roster featuring wide receivers like Daurice Fountain and Dezmon Patmon among players lower on the depth chart, Johnson could be a worthy practice squad stash.
