Monday Night Football, Week 2. Tonight the New Orleans Saints head to Sin City to take on the Raiders in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both teams come into this game undefeated at 1-0. The Saints suffered a crucial loss in their first game when star receiver Michael Thomas came up lame with a high ankle sprain. With a hobbled Thomas the Saints offense struggled mightily, resulting in a paltry and very un-Saintly 271 yards of total offense in their opening day win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Drew Brees misses his favorite target badly. If the Saints continue to struggle without Thomas, who will likely be hobbled multiple weeks due to the dreaded, lingering, never gets better during the season high ankle sprain, it’s going to be difficult for them to string wins together.
The Raiders come into this game off a thrilling 34-30 win over the hapless Carolina Panthers. Star running back Josh Jacobs had a huge game with 139 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. Jacobs is the engine that makes the Raiders offense run. Quarterback Derek Carr is just adequate, and a young and promising set of receivers is not quite ready to steal the show, so the Raiders offense lives and dies with Jacobs. Shut him down, make Carr and his young receivers try to beat you, and you’re in pretty good shape against the Raiders. It remains to be seen if the Saints are up to the task.
It’s the Raiders and the Saints live in Las Vegas on Monday Night Football.
