Detroit will have fake fans in the stands against the Bears thanks to Fox

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

With the COVID-19 pandemic eliminating fans from almost every NFL stadium this season, Fox will get creative by making the at home experience feel familiar by having virtual fans in the stands. This week they’ll only do it at Ford Field as the Detroit Lions host the Chicago Bears.

They may roll it out to more games next week, but with no preseason games to try it out on, they wanted a game to use as the guinea pig, and Bears vs Lions will be their test subject.

To get an idea of what it’ll look like, check out the Tweet below.

The NFL has already announced that they plan to pipe in some recorded crowd noise, with a maximum volume of 70 decibels, so now it will look and sound like an NFL game to those of us watching at home.

But to the players, they’ll be playing with no fans and a fake crowd, which is why the Bears tested out that type of artificial environment when that held their scrimmage at Solider Field a couple weeks ago. Head coach Matt Nagy said they have a plan in place on both offense and defense in case the noise affects them.
