Giants vs. Steelers halftime score: Pittsburgh leads, 16-10

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Giants Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Your second-half open thread

The first half of the New York Giants 2020 season is in the books as the Steelers lead the Giants 16-10 at the half.

Despite being heavily favored, the Pittsburgh Steelers struggled for most of the first half. The Steelers have their starting quarterback on the field for the first time since the second week of 2019, but while Ben Roethlisberger made some impressive throws, Pittsburgh’s offense never looked to be in sync.

The Giants took advantage of a number of Pittsburgh’s miscues, first recovering a muffed punt, which they converted into a field goal to score the first points of the season. Later the Giants were the beneficiaries of a defensive pass interference call to extend a drive which otherwise would have ended. The very next play Daniel Jones connected with a wide-open Darius Slayton for a touchdown. The Giants hung on to their lead when Pittsburgh scored an answering touchdown when Chris Boswell’s extra point attempt bounced off the upright.

The Steelers took their first lead of the game in the final two minutes of the half, with Roethlisberger orchestrating a frantic touchdown drive — hitting WR James Washington for the score with seven seconds to go.

Much of the Steelers’ offensive issues was due to the Giants’ defense, which stayed true to Patrick Graham’s promise to be multiple. The Giants’ front showed a wide variety of looks to disguise pressure and impact the Pittsburgh passing game.

Neither team found much success on the ground, as both defensive lines controlled the line of scrimmage. Benny Snell leads all backs with 23 yards on 5 carries, while Saquon Barkley has -3 yards on 9 carries.

Use this as your open thread as the Steelers get the ball to start the second half.
