Packers place Equanimeous St. Brown on IR, elevate Lovett & Previlon for week 2

Green Bay’s Saturday transactions are puzzling to say the least.

The Green Bay Packers finally made a move to injured reserve on Saturday. However, it was a move that was unexpected. Instead of sending guard Lane Taylor to the reserve list after his major knee injury last week, the team is placing wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown on that list instead.

After not appearing on any week one injury reports, St. Brown was a surprise scratch on gameday last Sunday for the Packers’ opener against the Minnesota Vikings. However, he was limited in this Wednesday’s practice before being a non-participant on Thursday and Friday. It is possible that he tweaked his knee in warmups before last week’s game, as a knee issue kept him out of several practices late in training camp.

St. Brown spent all of last season on injured reserve, going on the list with a high-ankle sprain before final cuts, which made him ineligible to return last year. This season, he will be able to return after sitting out a minimum of three weeks, which will hopefully be the case.

In advance of week two’s game against the Detroit Lions, the Packers elected not to fill St. Brown’s spot on the 53-man roster. However, they did elevate two practice squad players to the active roster for gameday, giving them 54 to choose from — 52 if you exclude Taylor and Randy Ramsey, who will also be out. Those two elevated players are defensive lineman Willington Previlon, an undrafted rookie from Rutgers, and tight end John Lovett, who was active last week as well. Previlon appears likely to play this week with Kenny Clark ruled out on Friday’s injury report.
