Who should you start and sit in fantasy when the Bengals face the Falcons?
The Bengals are trying to get back to their winning ways against the Falcons, and many of you are probably also looking to get that win for your fantasy team as well. There are plenty of great options from the Bengals game this week, so let’s get to it.
Must starts
A.J. Green (Bengals WR): Green didn’t have a stellar outing against Carolina, but considering he put up five catches and 58 yards in one half you could argue he was on his way to a great game. He even had a redzone target that he unfortunately couldn’t hold on to. Of Course, you’ll need to monitor his injury, but if he is out there he just has to be in your lineup.
Favorable matchups
Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley (Falcons WRs): Ridley blew up last week against the Saints with three touchdown catches. Jones still doesn’t even have a touchdown catch this season, but that could easily change this week against the Bengals. The fact Cincinnati doesn’t have William Jackson shadow the opposing teams’ best receiver allows the Falcons to basically put whoever they want on Dre Kirkpatrick. That has been pretty productive for receivers he has faced. Not to mention Jackson himself has allowed two touchdowns already this season in the redzone.
You should feel great with either of these guys in your lineup, but the fact they are competing for targets knocks them down from being must starts.
Tyler Boyd (Bengals WR): Boyd has been on a tear. He has 12 catches, 223 yards and two touchdowns over the past two weeks. He has clearly become one of Dalton’s favorite targets, and if you are in a PPR league he could quickly become a must play each week.
Tevin Coleman (Falcons RBs): Coleman can be a pretty nifty receiver out of the backfield even though he only has seven catches on the season. Not to mention the Bengals defense just gave up 230 yards rushing to the Panthers. I don’t expect Coleman to have the same success, but he should get over 100 yards from scrimmage fairly easily.
Giovani Bernard (Bengals RB): With no Joe Mixon again this week, Bernard is set to lead the backfield. He started off well against the Panthers last week, but it seemed like the offense didn’t use him as much later for whatever reason. I’d hope they won’t make that mistake again as the Falcons have seriously struggled with running backs out of the backfield. Christian McCaffrey had 14 catches against them two weeks ago and Alvin Kamara had 15 last week. That could end up being a huge week for you in PPR leagues.
Andy Dalton (Bengals QB): The Falcons defense has given up at least 300 yards passing and three touchdowns over the past two weeks. They are now down their two starting safeties, so this seems like a no-brainer.
Matt Ryan (Falcons QB): Matt Ryan has seven touchdowns and only one interception over the past two weeks. He has Atlanta’s offense looking unstoppable at times. He should be in your lineup until he cools off.
Austin Hooper (Falcons TE): You start average to good tight ends that play the Bengals, and Hooper falls in that category. He is a big target, and last week he caught a two-point conversion. He is tied with Ridley for second on the team with 11 receptions, so he is used pretty frequently.
Good but not great
Tyler Eifert (Bengals TE): Eifert had his best game of the season last week with six catches for 74 yards. Still, it was C.J. Uzomah who caught the touchdown. I’d say it is safe to start Eifert given the state of the tight end position in fantasy, but the fact he hasn’t really been utilized in the redzone limits him.
Just sit them
John Ross (Bengals WR): This doesn’t mean Ross can’t have a big game. Again there are some new faces in the back of the Falcons’ defense, so there is a reason to believe Ross could have a decent game. It is a matter of rick vs reward and the fact their are just safer options. Ross could just as easily end up with a big fat zero as he could end up with over 20 points this week. He has all the talent in the world, but with Green likely to play his volume takes a huge hit.
The defenses: Don’t start either defense. This could end up being one of the higher scoring affairs of the weekend. It is best to just look elsewhere.
