Week 3 rookie report card

Which rookie put in the most work during the Battle for LA against the Chargers?

The Los Angeles Rams came out victorious against QB Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers 36-23 in the Week 3 “Battle for LA.”

The win was an exclamation point for the offense. QB Jared Goff took control and fired off for 29 completions on 36 attempts for 354 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, the Rams are beginning to hurt some. The starting duo at cornerback went down, leaving Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips short-handed.

Report Card

DE/OLB John Franklin-Myers

Rookie EDGE JFM continues to be an integral part of the OLB rotation. Unlike previous weeks, Franklin-Myers did not lead the timeshare — he only had 18 snaps on defense. The veteran Matt Longacre led the pack (with just one more snap).

Newly converted OLB/EDGE Dominique Easley sustained an injury early in the game, which only means JFM will receive more paying time moving forward — especially with the short week ahead.

John play was unspectacular, but solid.

Grade: C

OT Joe Noteboom

I personally did not see Noteboom enter the game, it must have occurred during the closing minutes of the game, but he was credited for three snaps on offense.

For one, I am not against getting the rook some playing time.

Grade: C-

C Brian Allen

For the very first time this season, rookie center Brian Allen was a pre-game inactive.

It will be interesting moving forward, however. Starting center, John Sullivan, has been the weak link along a very stout offensive line.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

EDGE Justin Lawler

The numbers’ game will be interesting this week. Lawler did not see any playing time in Week 3 and it will be tough for him to see the field, especially now with the injuries in the secondary.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

ILB Micah Kiser

Like Lawler, Kiser was a victim to the game-day inactive list.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo

Obo still is on the PUP List. We cannot wait until he is fully healthy and ready to go.

Okoronkwo would be nice to toss into the EDGE rotation along with JFM.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

RB John Kelly

John Kelly was on the pre-game inactive list. It will be interesting to see if the Rams will give Kelly a try at returning punts and kicks. The Rams are running low on returners — JoJo Natson sustained any injury, and that is after the Rams already lost Pharoh Cooper.

JK is shifty and speedy as hell. I’d love to see him in the back returning punts and kicks.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

DL Sebastian Joseph-Day

Game-day inactive, playa!

Grade: N/A Incomplete

EDGE Trevon Young

See above.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

That does it for this week’s installation of the Rams rookie report card. Come back next week for the next episode...
