The Panthers took care of business at home to improve their record to 5-2.
The Panthers played a complete game of football today. Here’s the people who made it happen.
Cam Newton
Newton completed 21 of 29 passes for 2 touchdowns, coupled with 10 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. This was a classic example of Newton taking over a game and being utterly dominant for 4 quarters. Watch out NFL, Cam is ON again.
DJ Moore
This could be an introduction for Moore. 5 catches for 90 yards and 2 rushes for 39 yards today, as Moore showed what kind of player he can be as a featured weapon for this offense. He runs with such aggression and resolve, making it difficult for many defensive backs to bring him down. He showcased a first round pedigree today.
Christian McCaffrey
CMC is involved every week, but today we saw the evolution of his role in this offense. They lined him up in the slot and split him out wide, allowing CJ Anderson to be more involved in this offense. McCaffrey scored a touchdown and consistently gave Newton an option to move the chains. Today was one of the better examples of what kind of special weapon McCaffrey is.
Donte Jackson
Jackson was tasked with covering speedster John Brown today, and boy did he deliver. Several broken up passes, a sack on Joe Flacco, and that scrappy fire he brings really helped keep this defense aggressive. Keep it up, D-Jax.
Mike Adams + Captain Munnerlyn
Ron Rivera loves to talk about the veteran presence on both sides of the ball. Today, his thoughts made sense, as Adams and Munnerlyn both came up with key interceptions to give the offense more chances to pile on points.
Michael Palardy
This dude is a Pro Bowl caliber punter. Week in and week out, he drops the punts inside the 20, and often keeps teams inside their own five with the help of gunners like Curtis Samuel. This dude is way underrated as a punter, as he continues to put this defense in favorable field position.
Ron Rivera
For weeks we have criticized Ron for being overly conservative, and playing not to lose rather than being aggressive and playing to win, by allowing his offense to move the ball. We believe he has heard our prayers here at CSR, as Ron never let off the gas, turned Cam loose, and truly twisted the knife against a very solid team. They didn’t stop pushing for yards on offense and scored a 30 burger against one of the league’s best defenses. I’m not sure if Ron will continue to do this, but today he made the best of the talent at his disposal.
There are no losers today. The Panthers blew the Ravens away on all cylinders, and the coaches finally seem to understand what kind of team this can be.
