Panthers overcome slow start and dominate Ravens 36-21 for 5th win of season

The Panthers scored 27 unanswered points en route to a big win at home.

The Carolina Panthers had momentum on their side after last week’s thrilling come-from-behind victory against the Eagles as they hoped to win their second straight game over a bird opponent when the Baltimore Ravens came to town. The Ravens jumped out on top with a long, time consuming drive that resulted in a touchdown on the game’s first drive, and it looked bleak for the Panthers defense as they appeared unable to stop the Raven’s offensive attack.

But then things changed. The Panthers rattled off 27 unanswered points to take an insurmountable lead, and did just enough in the fourth quarter to bleed clock and score more points, putting the game out of reach.

This was a great statement game by the Panthers, who proved today that with the right game plan and proper approach they can contend with anyone in the league. Despite the shaky start, the Panthers came to life when it mattered the most and took control of the game while holding off a desperate comeback attempt at the end by the Ravens.

Cam Newton played one of his better games as a Panther, going 21-for-29, 219 yards and two touchdowns through the air while also adding 10 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Panthers took control of the game in the 2nd quarter and didn’t let up off the gas pedal until late in the 4th quarter, which is something that all Panthers fans have wanted to see. The final two drives were the only real disappointments of the day, when the Panthers failed to hang 40 points on the Ravens and allowed them to score a garbage time touchdown at the end to make the final score a bit more respectable.

All in all, there’s not much to complain about today in Carolina. The Panthers now sit at 5-2 and have a chance to get their third win in a row next week when the Buccaneers come to town. If they play like they did today, there’s a very good chance we’ll be talking about a 6-2 win next Sunday afternoon.
