Just days after the New York Giants released former No. 9 overall pick Ereck Flowers, he’s signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The obvious connection here is that Tom Coughlin is familiar with Flowers. But aside from that, and in some ways because of that, this is a puzzling move. Flowers has started 48 games in his career, but it’s not a secret that he was among the worst starting offensive tackles in the NFL. That being said, the Jaguars do have a need at the offensive tackle position due to injuries suffered to their starters. Given that this is reportedly a one-year deal, there’s not a lot of financial risk involved. There just might be some risk involved, however, when it comes to the health of the team’s starting quarterback, Blake Bortles. Time will tell.
