Final Score: Bears 24, Jets 10

In a raw, wet and blustery Chicago, the New York Jets dropped their fifth game of the 2018 NFL season with a 24-10 loss to the Chicago Bears. Rain and gusty winds made passing in Chicago a bit difficult, and the Jets with their makeshift offensive lineup proved unequal to the task. The Jets produced just 91 yards of offense and three points in an inept first half, and things didn’t get much better after the break. After trailing by just four points at the half, the Jets couldn’t get anything going in the third quarter, and they trailed the Bears 17-3 going into the fourth quarter, having managed just four first downs in the first three quarters. The Jets then went on a long touchdown drive to open the fourth quarter, aided by a dumb Bears penalty and culminating in a Sam Darnold to Chris Herndon connection to get the Jets back in the game at 17-10.

The Bears responded by promptly marching the length of the field and scoring a touchdown to make it 24-10 and put the game all but out of reach.

Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold struggled in the rain and wind, completing just 14 of 29 passes for 153 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions and a 75.8 passer rating. His group of castoffs masquerading as offensive weapons didn’t do Darnold any favors, rarely creating separation.

With the loss the Jets record goes to 3-5, and they head back on the road against the Miami Dolphins next week with their fading playoff hopes on life support.

John will be around for the recap of today’s game a bit later this evening. In the meantime leave your comments on the game below.
