Seattle Seahawks defensive end Frank Clark has deservedly won the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award following last Sunday’s terrific performance against the Oakland Raiders.
Clark, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, racked up 2.5 sacks (plus another sack that was erased due to a holding penalty) and two forced fumbles on Derek Carr, which the Seahawks recovered on both occasions. Even more impressive is the fact that he only played 29 of the team’s 60 defensive snaps due to illness.
Considering the departures of both Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, the Seahawks defense needed Clark to step up and have the best season of his career, and he’s well on course for a big payday (ideally from Seattle). Through six games he’s managed 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and an interception against the Los Angeles Rams. Only J.J. Watt, T.J. Watt, Danielle Hunter, and Geno Atkins have more sacks than #55.
Essentially, the only thing that has stopped Frank Clark this year are turkey burgers. He’ll need to keep playing at a high-level after the bye week, as Matthew Stafford, Philip Rivers, Jared Goff (whom he forced a fumble on two weeks ago), and Aaron Rodgers are the next four quarterbacks the Seahawks defense will face.
