Lions Week 8 Song of the Game: “Special” by Garbage

You’re lucky it’s not the Australian national anthem or something.

We’ve been doing the Song of the Game for a minute now, and I’ve got to wonder each time we put together these playlists as to just how jarring the attitude can go week-to-week once it’s all said and done. The Lions, for the past two seasons and change, have been incredibly inconsistent, unable to put together a standardized performance that we can easily quantify. The season is half done and we’re still going to be talking about how we don’t know what this team is.

It’s fun, isn’t it? I know that you might think “fun” would be just to win all the time, and that’d be pretty neat, I suppose. But barring such a possibility, at least it’s a roller coaster and not a sand trap.

I couldn’t care less

But you know what? I can’t fault a fan if they’re getting a little weary of the ups-and-downs. After a while some sort of picture is supposed to form of this team, and each week when you think the Lions have a run game or the ability to create pressure on a quarterback it just whispers and vanishes, like it didn’t even exist to begin with.

Each time you think this team is special, they remind you, very clearly, they’re nothing of the sort.

What a thrill.

I’d say some fans have lost patience for sure if they’re talking about trading Matthew Stafford for a handful of picks. Thankfully, I wrote about this exact scenario not long ago.

Anyway, as the dek says, just be grateful I didn’t pick the Australian national anthem after what Michael Dickson did to the Lions. Oh, you’d have thought I’d pick Men at Work? That song is lame. You’re lame for thinking it. Get outta here.
