Friday marked the last full practice of the week for the San Francisco 49ers as they prepare for their Week 8 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media and relayed Friday’s injury report, featuring some notable updates that will impact the 49ers’ starting lineup come Sunday.
Running back Matt Breida returned to practice Friday in limited fashion after sitting out most of the week with a persistent ankle injury. The 49ers’ leading back has been battling the injury for weeks, forcing him to make an early exit against the Rams in Week 7. He’s listed as questionable against the Cardinals.
Veteran cornerback Richard Sherman also returned to practice Friday and is questionable for Sunday. He said Thursday that he felt confident he’d be able to go against the Cardinals but was unsure if he’d return for next Thursday’s primetime matchup against the Oakland Raiders at Levi’s Stadium.
Center Weston Richburg (knee) did not practice Friday and is listed as questionable. If he is unable to go, Erik Magnuson or Mike Person would handle center duties.
Receiver Pierre Garçon (shoulder, knee) is the only player listed as doubtful on the injury report. His likely absence against the Cardinals could mean more action for rookie receiver Dante Pettis, who returns this week after missing three games following a knee injury suffered in the first quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers.
