What was the most important play of the Jets’ win over the Colts?

What was the most important play of yesterday’s 42-34 Jets win over Indianapolis?

I look to early in the third quarter. The Jets had kicked a field goal right before halftime to extend their 20-13 lead to 23-13. They then received the kickoff to start the second half.

They proceeded to drive 72 yards on 5 plays for a touchdown. It was capped by a 32 yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to Chris Herndon. After the extra point, the Jets lead 30-13. Even though New York’s defense had some second half struggles, the Colts never again had the ball with a chance to tie the game.

When you pull ahead by three scores in the second half, your opponent is left chasing the game. Again, the fact the Colts had some success after this point and still never seriously threatened the Jets shows how overwhelming such a lead is.

And there is something to be said for a situation where the other team’s quarterback is facing a perfectly reasonable 7 point deficit as he leaves the field and then trails by 17 the next time he sets foot on the field.

The entire sequence was important, but Herndon’s touchdown is what capped it. That play staked the Jets to their huge lead so it gets my vote for the most important play of the game.

What is your most important play?
