Atlanta Falcons fantasy stud and dud from Week 11

A first time stud and a dud for the second week in a row.

Another week, another detrimental loss for the Falcons as far as their now waning playoff hopes are concerned. The Cowboys came into this one boasting a top 10 defensive unit and they stifled the Falcons’ vaunted attack throughout most of the afternoon. In the end, the Birds just didn’t have enough firepower.

We have a lot of great content analyzing the game here at The Falcoholic, but in this article, we’ll look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective. Let’s look at Atlanta’s top fantasy performer and biggest fantasy disappointment from Week 11’s defeat against the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Stud/Dud 2018 History:

Past Studs: Matt Ryan (4), Julio Jones (2), Calvin Ridley (1), Mohamed Sanu (1), Giorgio Tavecchio (1)

Past Duds: Mohamed Sanu (3), Atlanta D/ST (2), Devonta Freeman (1), Austin Hooper (1), Tevin Coleman (1), Calvin Ridley (1)

Stud - Matt Bryant

Stat Line: 1/1 PATs, 1/1 20-29 yards, 2/2 40-49 yards, 1/1 50+ yards: 15.0 standard league/PPR points

The offense moved the ball well but couldn’t finish their drives in this one, and that paved the way for the ageless Matt Bryant to have a big afternoon.

Bryant came back from injury this week and didn’t miss a beat — he nailed all four of his field goal attempts, including one from 53 yards out, and tied the game at 19 with his lone extra point attempt. He has yet to miss a field goal this season, and has been perfect on all of his kicks since that lone missed extra point in Week 1.

Julio Jones got strong consideration for the recognition, but Bryant was the highest scoring player at his position this weekend. He’ll be an elite fantasy option moving forward.

Dud

Calvin Ridley: 3 catches, 32 receiving yards: 3.2 standard league points, 6.2 PPR points

For the second straight week, Calvin Ridley checks in as the fantasy dud, as it seems like he’s hit the rookie wall.

Because the Cowboys are so good at limiting the fantasy production of outside WRs, I advised against starting Ridley in this week’s start/sit column. However, in the heat of bye week season, plenty of people were relying on Ridley as their WR2 and he failed to deliver.

3.2 fantasy points won’t get it done, and he didn’t catch a high enough volume of passes to make his mark much better in PPR leagues either. Ryan is spreading the ball around, and that’s come to the detriment of Ridley’s fantasy prospects as now everyone is competing to play second banana to Julio Jones.

To make matters worse, Ridley had an egregious fourth quarter drop which resulted in an interception, which then resulted in a Cowboys touchdown. Without that drop, the Falcons win the game.
