Redskins Vs. Bucs - Studs and Duds

Mark Tyler gives you his Studs and Duds of the Redskins game against the Buccaneers.

The Redskins victory over the Bucs in Tampa on Sunday, was one of the ugliest victories you’ll ever see...but a win, no matter how ugly, is still a win, and the Redskins are now 6-3 on the season, with a two game lead in the NFC East. The best part, is they control their won destiny - which I feel is the first time we can say this at this point of the season in a LONG time.

Below are my Studs and Duds of the game.

Studs:

Josh Doctson - Doctson recorded four catches for 46 yards and a nice touchdown catch in traffic. It’s not really the numbers here that stand out, but more the fact that he didn’t flat out drop any easy passes this game.

Preston Smith - I thought Smith played his best game of the season against the Bucs, recording three tackles, one sack, 1.5 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and multiple quarterback hits. His strip-sack of Fitzpatrick was instrumental in the Skins victory.

Ryan Anderson - Anderson is not going to pop on the stat sheet, but his punch-out fumble on a Jacquizz Rodgers run, that was recovered in the endzone by HaHa Clinton-Dix, was a thing of beauty, and shows that as a defender, you never give up on a play.

Greg Stroman - The rookie came in to replace the struggling Danny Johnson, and played pretty well. He looked much more confident, quick and decisive. He tackled well, and his interception when he jumped an inside route was huge.

Dustin Hopkins - Hopkins was perfect on the day, going three for three with a long of 43.

Tress Way - This guy is like a golfer out there playing from 75 yards out with a sand-wedge. Simply amazing!

Chandler Catanzaro - Thank you, is all I can say!

Duds:

Mason Foster/Zach Brown - I don’t care how many tackles these two racked up, it’s where on the field they were making them (and not making them) that had me concerned. I’m sorry, but Peyton Barber and Ryan Fitzpatrick should not be averaging 4.7 and 4.4 yards per attempt respectively. And their coverage...we’ll just not get into that.

Danny Johnson - The rookie corner was awful early in the game before getting pulled. Fitzpatrick identified and targeted him early and often with great success. Not much more to say here.

Redskins Team Tackling - Man, it was just bad! We did improve in the second half a bit...but still poor overall. How can you allow Ryan Fitzpatrick to continually escape pressure and gash us for yards?

The Refs - Like I have said in the past, I hate to blame the refs for any game, but there were some horrendous calls made against the Redskins; none worse than the “holding” call on Morgan Moses. That crew should all be fined for their job in that game!
