Aussie Jordan Mailata takes another ‘massive step’ in NFL journey - ESPN
Mailata ended up being drafted by the Eagles, who moved up in the seventh round to get him. He went on to make the team out of training camp. Still very raw, the initial thought was to have him as the 53rd man out of 53 -- far away from live action as he spent the year developing. The timetable, though, continues to move up when it comes to this prospect. The Eagles had him active for Week 7’s game against the Carolina Panthers, meaning he was just an injury or two away from playing in his first professional game. “It’s a massive step,” Mailata said. “There’s a difference when you’re not dressing every week and then as soon as you start dressing, you’re like, ‘Oh, you can actually go into the game now.’ The whole mentality changes and you have to focus in more and listen to what [offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland] is saying on the sideline and watch what the D end is doing, as well, just in case they do something funky on you in case you go in. A lot more focused in.”

My predictions from last year were shockingly accurate (shocking because I was right about something for once!) Maybe those results bode well for this year’s predictions, but probably not. After all the talk this summer about whether Carson Wentz’s torn ACL would slow his development in Year 3, it hasn’t taken very long for the majority of doubters to be turned into believers. Sure, his team is only 3-3 in his six starts this season, but it hasn’t been the quarterback’s fault. More often than not, Wentz, who is completing over 70 percent of his passes, has looked more like the guy who was the frontrunner for last season’s MVP than the guy who spent the offseason rehabbing from surgery. And that’s led to a 13-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio this season and a 109.6 passer rating. So what does the second half of the season hold?

The Eagles ended up trading for Golden Tate. He did run a 4.42 at the Combine when coming out, but Tate has never been considered a field stretcher. He was more of a vertical threat in Seattle than Detroit, but Tate has always been most dangerous with the ball in his hands. I wonder if the Eagles dealt for him because he was the best player available or if they realized the struggles they have had with speedy receivers. We’ll get a better feel for the situation when the offseason comes and we see what the Eagles do at receiver. Tate could have a really interesting impact on the Eagles. If he can come in and play at a high level, the Eagles could decide to quit chasing speedy guys and focus more on versatile playmakers. I expect we are going to see Tate used a lot of different ways in the next eight games.

Can the offense start scoring more points? The key to this is red zone efficiency. The Eagles are currently 17th in the league when it comes to scoring touchdowns in the red zone. They average four red zone trips per game, but only convert them into touchdowns 55 percent of the time. If you can fix that issue and get one more touchdown a game, you go from scoring 22 points per contest to 26. The Eagles led the league in red zone offense last year, so we know they have the potential to excel at this. The Eagles can’t rely on long drives and red zone efficiency for all their points. They need more explosive plays. The Eagles had 12 plays of 40 or more yards in 2017. They have four this year, and none of them are runs. The number of plays of 20 or more yards is similar from this year to last year so those medium gains are happening. The Eagles need more of the explosive plays where they really get huge chunks at a time.

2. Running game: The Eagles are averaging just 4.1 yards per carry this year (22nd in NFL) after averaging 4.5 last year (fourth-best). There’ve been flashes, but they haven’t been able to find any consistency with the ground game. No Eagle has had 40 rushing yards in back-to-back weeks all year.

It was a quick relationship for the Arizona Cardinals who were roundly criticized for their initial signing of Bradford. They proved the critics right as Bradford was abysmal with the Cardinals, leading an absolutely dreadful offense. Bradford finished with an even 400 yards on the season, completing 62.5% of his passes for only two touchdowns and four interceptions. The Arizona Cardinals had the worst statistical offense in the NFL in his time.

According to Mike Sando of ESPN, by releasing Bradford before Week 10 of the season, the Cardinals have gained a sixth-round compensatory pick of their own, and in the process have apparently deprived the Vikings of what would have been a third-round compensatory pick for Bradford.
Raiders have reportedly cut Bruce Irvin - Silver And Black Pride
On a team with no pass rush to speak of, Irvin not seeing the field was a telltale sign that he was in Jon Gruden’s doghouse. Gruden said Friday that it was a matter of Irvin not fitting what they were doing defensively, basically labeling him a situational pass rusher. And playing from behind so much was not the ideal situation for Irvin to get on the field. For two seasons, he was the Robin to Khalil Mack’s Batman. Gruden traded Batman away before season, leaving Robin to try things on his own. He had 3.0 sacks in the first five games, but for the most part he was unable to do much without the threat Mack posed on the opposite side.

Jon Gruden should give the Raiders their money back. (Ha ha, that’ll never happen) - SB Nation
It’s fun to imagine authority figures being held accountable for saying stupid shit, but Gruden’s vow to refund the Raiders’ money is just a platitude. No, the reality is much worse. Gruden’s not going anywhere, and he’ll probably only tighten his grip on the team after this season. He’s got a scapegoat in general manager Reggie McKenzie, the whole franchise is leaving town and there’s a pile of first-round picks just waiting to be squandered on some magic beans and a new pass rusher who won’t be as good as Khalil Mack.
