Handling of Darren Sproles’ hamstring injury raises more questions about Eagles’ new medical staff - Inquirer
Despite coming off the franchise’s first Super Bowl win, the Eagles turned over their medical staff leadership this offseason. Head athletic trainer Chris Peduzzi “stepped down” in February and head physician Peter DeLuca and internist Gary Dorshimer were let go in June. For a professional sports team coming off a championship, it was virtually unprecedented. Adding to the peculiarity was that the Eagles had so many players – most of the them expected to have substantial roles in 2018 – coming off surgery. While several have returned without delay, there have been abnormalities and further injury. Wide receiver Mack Hollins had sports hernia surgery on the same February day as defensive end Derek Barnett, but he was sidelined with a groin injury during training camp and placed on injured reserve before the season opener. Safety Chris Maragos has missed more than a year with a torn ACL and a torn PCL in his knee and is seemingly nowhere near a return. Quarterback Carson Wentz needed just over nine months to recover from a torn ACL and a torn LCL, but there was awkwardness early in camp when he was a full participant one day only to be dialed back and limited the next month without a medical setback. There was further embarrassment when the medical staff failed to diagnose running back Jay Ajayi’s torn ACL against the Vikings in October. It’s unclear when and if the doctors looked at the injury, but at some point in the second half he was outfitted with a left knee brace.
The problem with Dak Prescott and how it plays into the Eagles’ hands - BGN
What happens when you mix a spooked, unsure quarterback with an unimaginative offensive coordinator and a thinning offensive line? Those are the ingredients in the Dallas Cowboys’ cocktail and it’s a major problem. Making matters worse, the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles and their buzzsaw front four gets to exploit these weaknesses in front of a raucous home crowd under the bright lights of prime time football. I often make the case that the Eagles rack up pressures and hits but not sacks with the same frequency due to the opposing offenses’ gameplan. Per Pro Football Focus, Only one quarterback has had a time-to-throw slower than an average of 2.40 seconds against the Eagles’ defense. That quarterback was Blake Bortles (2.66). He was sacked four times.

Eagles mailbag: Where will Sleevie Wonder (a.k.a. Sam Bradford) end up in 2019? - PhillyVoice
Eli Manning is scheduled to count for 23.2 million against the cap in 2019. If they cut or trade (lol) him, they will save $17 million of that money. They would be insane to keep Eli around for yet another year, though they stupidly thought he was an answer in 2018, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Anyway, if the Giants move on from Eli in the offseason, is there a chance Shurmur could convince the morons in the Giants’ front office to bring in Sleevie Wonder as a veteran to go alongside a drafted quarterback (or 2018 fourth-round pick Kyle Lauletta), kinda/sorta like the Eagles were planning on doing with Bradford/Wentz before the opportunity to trade him arose? That was several Bradford failures ago, but sure, I can see that.
Breaking Down the Game – DAL at PHI - Iggles Blitz
Teams that play on MNF tend to struggle when forced to go on the road the next week. Dallas lost to the Titans on Monday night and now will be traveling to Philly for the big game. The Lions lost in the opener, went to SF and lost again. The Bucs lost to PIT on MNF and then were destroyed by the Bears on the road. Denver lost on MNF and then went to the Jets and lost 34-16. Advantage: Eagles.
The Eagles Are Beginning to Look Like the Defending Champions Again. Can They Buck 14 Years of NFC East History? - The Ringer
As the second half begins, the Eagles, though not perfect, still just feel like the favorites in the NFC East. That perception is no doubt helped by the fact the division-leading Redskins seem to be in danger of foundering. Reeling from a 38-14 trouncing at the hands of the Falcons last week, and dealing with a rash of injuries to basically the entire offensive line, Washington’s grip on the division lead remains tenuous. With left tackle Trent Williams expected to miss a month with a thumb injury, right tackle Morgan Moses nursing a knee injury, and both starting guards (Shawn Lauvao and Brandon Scherff) now done for the season, the foundation of Washington’s ball-control offense―its offensive line―has been thrown into flux. That might spell trouble for quarterback Alex Smith, who’s struggled to produce at the levels we saw in his career year in 2017, and could completely derail running back Adrian Peterson, who’s shown he can carry this offense when given a little bit of blocking up front.
Grading all Day 2 rookies in the NFL after Week 9 - PFF
Pick 17, 49 overall – Philadelphia Eagles: Dallas Goedert, TE. Overall grade: 72.1. Overall rank: 13/66. Snaps played: 254Dallas Goedert is currently PFF’s highest-graded rookie tight end. He has just 18 catches on the season but has turned them into seven first downs and three touchdowns, generating a passer rating of 123.7.
Week 8 DVOA Ratings - Football Outsiders
CB Ronald Darby, PHI: Led NFL with 7 PD in October; 7 of his 13 tackles after receptions stopped receiver short of a successful play.
Eagle Eye: Can Carson Wentz Carve Up This Dallas D? - PE.com
This Dallas Cowboys offense will present challenges for the Eagles on Sunday night, but don’t ignore an improved Dallas defense. This is a group with legitimate NFL talent at all three levels, especially in the front seven. Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli has been in the league for a long time and is one of the most respected defensive coaches in football, but the addition of defensive backs coach Kris Richard (previously with the Seattle Seahawks) gives this unit some new spice. This group plays fast, they’re young, and they’re aggressive. They play man and zone on the back end, typically from single-high looks, and they’re a pretty deep group up front. The best player on that defense, for my money, is pass rusher Demarcus Lawrence, the left defensive end in the 4-3 scheme.
Blow ‘em out, Golden Tate to damage, more in Roob’s 10 random Eagles observations for Cowboys Week - NBCSP
Must-wins often aren’t legitimately must-wins. You never know how the season is going to play out, and the Eagles find themselves in a division in which mediocrity reigns and 9-7 could be enough to finish first. But come on now, this one actually is a must-win. You can’t lose at home to a Cowboys team that’s averaging 13½ points per game on the road, that’s coming off a 14-point home loss to the Titans, that’s a seven-point underdog coming off a short week. The Eagles haven’t won back-to-back games yet this year, and they’ve lost their last two at home. They are clearly a superior team and they’re coming off a bye in their own building against their biggest rivals. I’d like to see this one become a blowout. The Eagles are world champions, and it’s time they start playing like world champions.
NFL evaluators make picks on Week 10’s best games - ESPN
This is a rough spot for Dallas with the Cowboys traveling on a short week to face an Eagles team coming off its bye. All three insiders picked the Eagles, which was not a surprise. I was mostly curious what they thought about Golden Tate’s addition to Philadelphia. ”He will be impressive out of the slot, similar to how [Nelson] Agholor had been last season,” one of the insiders said. The 2017 Eagles led the NFL with 18 touchdown passes targeting players who had aligned in the slot at the snap. This year’s team ranks tied for 26th with two such scoring passes. Only Buffalo has fewer, with one. ”Tate will give them some more versatility on the inside, some run-after-catch ability,” the insider added. “I think they are getting healthier in the receiving corps, so the bye came at the right time and I think they are poised to make a nice little run.” Tate caught five scoring passes from the slot in 2017, when the Lions trailed only the Eagles in scoring receptions from that alignment. He has two this season, including one against the Cowboys on a Week 4 play when he turned a 9-yard pass into a 45-yard score with 36 yards after the catch.
Eagles-Cowboys cheat sheet: Rasul Douglas’ personal turmoil, matchups & predictions - The Athletic
Rasul Douglas is slated to make his first start of the season on Sunday while carrying the burden of a heavy heart. Last month, his grandmother Carletta Williams, the woman who raised him, died unexpectedly at the age of 82. “It’s been hard. The first week it was rough,” Douglas said. “I always think about her. Every time I turn on my phone, it’s a picture of me and her. I always think about her. That was like my mom. Kind of everything I was doing was for her, to put her in a better position than what we had when I was growing up. I just wanted to find a way to repay her. Felt like I did a little bit of it. Didn’t really do everything that I had planned.”
Will a blowout on Sunday night get Jason Garrett fired? - PFT
A very real potential for a very bad outcome this weekend exists. The Eagles, who have the kind of creativity and ingenuity that the Cowboys don’t, will have had two weeks to prepare. The Cowboys will have had six days. The Eagles are hitting their stride. The Cowboys have spun out of control. When the Eagles win against Dallas, the Eagles sometimes win big. 37-9 last year. 27-13 in 2016. 33-10 in 2014. 34-7 and 20-7 in 2011. And who can forget that 44-6 shellacking by the Eagles from the final week of 2008, which put the Eagles into the playoffs and knocked the Cowboys out? Another outcome like one of those outcomes could end up being the final nail for Garrett, and his final act as head coach of the team. While he may still be clapping on the way out the door, Garrett definitely won’t be exiting to a round of applause from Cowboys fans who are currently clamoring for change.
The first-place Redskins versus the last-place Buccaneers; two fan bases with different reasons to worry about the season - Hogs Haven
The Tampa Bay high-powered passing game and high scoring offense will come up against the stingy Washington defense. The winner of that battle will have a huge impact on the eventual winner of this game. However, the anemic Bucs defense will be pitted against the largely ineffectual, and certainly low-scoring, Redskins offense. Can the ‘Skins put up enough points to get out of Florida with a win?
Odell Beckham’s goal? “Win eight games. Go 9-7 and go to the playoffs” - Big Blue View
Odell Beckham Jr.’s goal for the second half of the season? “Win eight games. Go 9-7 and go to the playoffs,” Beckham said on Friday. “Giants been there before, 9-7 and got to the playoffs. I think they did pretty good, so that’s the goal. It’s not an easy task, but that’s the goal. We want to win every game, and do anything I can to help that.”
From a careless Carson to a slippery Tate, here are five things to watch when the Cowboys face the Eagles - Blogging The Boys
Tate’s ability to turn a small gain into a big gain has always been a problem for the Cowboys regardless of what team he’s played for. His best game so far this season came in Week 4 against the Cowboys where he caught eight passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. He’s going to be a problem. But the problem doesn’t stop with Tate. The Eagles have an assortment of short-pass-catching players who will look to steal extra yards to help keep the offense moving. Between bubble screens, bootlegs, or just quick dump offs to running backs, the Eagles will find ways to get chunks of yardage. The Cowboys linebackers will have to do a better job tackling than they did against Dion Lewis and the Titans on Monday night.

Cowboys vs. Eagles 2018 odds: Philadelphia the clear Sunday night betting favorite - SB Nation
The Eagles entered their bye week on the heels of a win, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-18 on the road. That win improved Philadelphia’s record to 4-4 SU and 3-5 ATS through the first half of the season. Philadelphia has looked nothing like the team that dominated the NFL to the tune of a 16-3 SU and 13-6 ATS record en route to a Super Bowl victory in 2017 this year, but thanks to the weakness of the NFC East, the team is still very much alive in the hunt for a playoff spot. Philadelphia has struggled at home against the Cowboys in recent years with a 1-5 SU and ATS home record in its last six games against Dallas per the OddsShark NFL Database.
