Can the Titans finally beat Andrew Luck?
Just like that, the Titans are back on track. After a win in front of a national audience last Monday night in Dallas, the Titans backed that up with a dismantling of the New England Patriots.
Raise your hand if you saw the Titans winning that one by 24.
We learned a couple of things during that one. The Titans’ defense is legitimate, even more so now if Adoree’ Jackson is going to start shadowing opponent’s No. 1 receivers. That’s just going to take some pressure off of Malcolm Butler and perhaps let him find some sort of comfort zone again.
Secondly, we saw Marcus Mariota string his third straight game together playing at a high level. He didn’t get the results in London thanks to some untimely drops, but he sure did against Dallas and New England. We’re seeing him healthy now, finally starting to return to that 2016 version of himself. That Mariota paired with this 2018 defense could prove to be a legitimate contender down the road.
A red hot Mariota now gets the Colts, who have surrendered 26+ points in five of their last six games. If we see the Mariota from the last three weeks, Tennessee has a good shot at extending that trend for the Colts.
However, Vegas isn’t quite ready to buy in. They’ve placed the Colts as three point favorites for Sunday’s matchup in Indy. That number has quickly dropped to Colts -2. The total is set at 48.
What the Colts lack defensively, Andrew Luck makes up for offensively. He’s totally back to form, playing behind an improved offensive line and new head coach Frank Reich.
Luck has thrown for nearly 2,500 yards already, totaling 26 touchdowns against just nine interceptions. Eric Ebron has emerged as a top red zone threat, hauling in nine of those touchdown passes to this point. Marlon Mack is finally getting his shot at a full workload and the results have been outstanding. He’s averaging 5.3 yards per carry and has given the Colts’ run game a totally new look.
Both offenses have been scoring in bunches lately, but this one will be determined on the defensive side of the ball. Tennessee brings the league’s best scoring defense to Indy — fresh off of holding Tom Brady to ten points — while the Colts will have to rely on their 26th ranked defensive unit to slow down Mariota.
That’s the difference in this one to me. I’ll take Titans +2 here.
