Bengals New: Mike Brown giving “biggest middle-finger salute to a fan base ever”

Mike Brown has done plenty in his time as an owner to show he doesn’t care much about what the fans think, but things have gone too far.

Paul Daugherty: Do you remember when rooting for the Bengals was fun?
What is it with Cincinnati recycling coaches, families and players? It isn’t because their success has been historically overwhelming. And making matters worse is that Mike Brown is reportedly letting Marvin Lewis call the shots when it comes to remaining head coach of the Bengals, which Doc calls “the biggest middle-finger salute to a fan base ever, anywhere, and I’m not even researching it.” Hard to disagree.

Marvin Lewis, Jeff Driskel News Conference - 12/26
“The biggest thing is learning from your downfall and critiquing the correction and trying not to make the same habitual mistakes. First off, don’t beat yourself and have false start penalties, 12 men in the huddle, or things like that. Well, the other team was able to do 12 men in the huddle three or four times (laughs). But those kinds of things for young players is the first thing. Make sure you handle what you can handle in both that and your preparation. I think they’re gaining an understanding of what a fine line it is from winning to losing.”

Quick Hits: Boyd, Tez, Dre Don't Open Week; Mixon Closes In On AFC Rush Crown
The Bengals began preparations Wednesday for Sunday’s season finale in Pittsburgh (4:25 p.m.-Cincinnati’s Channel 12) without three starters in wide receiver Tyler Boyd (knee), cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick (shoulder) and linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion) on the practice field. It’s probably a long-shot that they’re going to play. Also out was back-up cornerback Tony McRae (hamstring) after he sat out Sunday’s game in Cleveland …

Game Preview: Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers
Already eliminated from the playoff contention, the 6-9 Bengals look to play the role of spoiler to their AFC North Division rivals from the Steel City. The 8-6-1 Steelers need a win and help elsewhere to make the playoffs. Cincinnati last week lost 26-18 to the Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. The Bengals’ offense struggled in the contest, particularly early. In first half, the Bengals totaled just 36 net yards, including minus-15 yards passing, and failed to convert any of their five third downs en route to a 16-0 halftime deficit. Not until early in the fourth quarter did Cincinnati complete a drive that ended in a score, a 51-yard field goal by K Randy Bullock. But by then, the 23-0 lead the Browns had mounted prior to that FG proved too much for the Bengals to overcome.

Bengals Organization and Players Donate $300,000 to Social Justice Initiatives
The Bengals organization and players donated $300,000 to support four programs as part of the NFL social justice initiative. The programs focus on poverty and reducing barriers to opportunity, with a priority on supporting improvements in education and economic advancement and community and police relations.

Steelers need to beat Bengals and get help
If the Steelers (8-6-1) do get past the Bengals (6-9), they could reach the postseason if one of two things happen -- either the Cleveland Browns beat the Baltimore Ravens or the Indianapolis Colts tie with the Tennessee Titans.

Browns’ Baker Mayfield earns weekly award after shredding Bengals
The Bengals allowed Baker Mayfield to erupt yet again in Week 16, and with that dominance, he was awarded the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week.
