Bills place Matt Milano, Taron Johnson on injured reserve

For a pair of young Bills, the 2018 season is officially over

The Buffalo Bills have placed two players on injured reserve, officially ending their 2018 season. Linebacker Matt Milano and cornerback Taron Johnson, key contributors to the defense this season, will not play again in 2018.

Milano, a second-year linebacker, had surgery to repair a broken fibula on Monday. He suffered the gruesome injury in Sunday’s loss against the New York Jets. Milano was having a breakout campaign, amassing 78 tackles, twelve tackles for loss, one sack, seven pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. Head coach Sean McDermott said that he expects Milano to be ready for off-season activities.

Johnson, a rookie drafted in the fourth round out of Weber State, was enjoying a strong first year as Buffalo’s primary nickel corner. He had surgery to repair a shoulder injury that he initially suffered in his first professional game against the Baltimore Ravens. Johnson gutted through the pain, managing to play 11 games on the season before undergoing the surgery. He had 42 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, three pass breakups, and one interception on the year. He, too, should be ready for off-season work.

The Bills have yet to announce corresponding roster moves for either player. With so many injury concerns at various positions, the Bills may wait until later in the week to decide who will fill their spots on the active roster.
