In a game where we needed more than 46 game-day active players, some of the “new guys” stepped up
The Denver Broncos started the game with one player back from injury, Brandon Marshall and four guys as healthy scratches - Su’a Cravens, Shane Ray, Demarcus Walker and Niko Falah. The other two inactives are injured - Chris Harris Jr and Shaquil Barrett. CHJ should be shut down for the year now that the games don’t matter. The Broncos need all of their young CBs who will be back next season (no, I don’t think we should retain Bradley Roby) to get game-day experience.
Brendan Langley and Isaac Yiadom (when he’s able) both need to get more trial by fire. So does Demarcus Walker. The Broncos have now wasted another year of his potential. He will probably never be the next Michael Bennett, but at this point we still don’t really know what we have in the former second round pick and that is sad after two full seasons after drafting him.

DaeSean Hamilton played all but one offensive snap (99% - career high for him) and played well in the loss. Matt Lacosse played a career high 93% of the offensive snaps and looked like a decent receiving TE. Our OL as it currently stands has now played five complete games together.
Unfortunately, while this should mean that they are getting better as the grow more comfortable playing in their new positions and playing next to the guy or guys on either side, they are not. The last two weeks opposing defensive coordinators have stacked the box and dared Case Keenum to beat him with his arm. He hasn’t been able to do so and our patchwork OL is not capable of generated a running game against stacked boxes.

If Shane Ray wants to complain about being a game-day inactive (while Jeff Holland was active), he needs to shut his mouth. Ray had played in 40% and 43% of the defensive snaps in the past two games with one total tackle to show for his time in the game. Shane Ray has 253 defensive snaps on the season and has 10 total tackles, 1 PD, 1 FF, 1 sack, 1 TFL and 1 QB hit.
Jeff Holland had 21 defensive snaps on Saturday and had two total tackles (1 solo). I said it last week when Shane Ray played - no one noticed because he had zero impact on the game. So yeah, Jeff Holland, recently called up from the practice squad, played 31% of the defensive snaps. Brendan Langley because of a concussion did not play a single defensive snap, even though he would have had be been in the game.
The Broncos were using both Will Parks and Justin Simmons as CBs late in the game because of the loss of Roby (bit his tongue during the game), Langley and Jamar Taylor (who was thrown out on his second defensive snap for throwing a punch). Because of the need to use safeties as cornerbacks, Dymonte Thomas played a career high 34% of the defensive snaps (and had an interception).
Marshall played 54% of the defensive snaps and looked quick and decisive making a couple of noticeable plays in the passing game. With Marshall’s return Todd Davis was given some rest - he only played 72% of the defensive snaps last game after being in the high 90% in the previous two.
Will Parks also played well when pressed into service - he played in 72% of the defensive snaps and had one pass defended and four total tackles (3 solo). Justin Simmons and Darian Stewart again played every single defensive snap, but Stewart continued to look slow and ineffective when he showed up on screen. He did account for 4 tackles (2 solo), but we exposed multiple times in coverage.
