The tide has turned in Cleveland.
On Tuesday, the players named to the 2019 NFL Pro Bowl were unveiled. The Cleveland Browns had two players make the Pro Bowl and could have a few more on the way if players drop out or make the Super Bowl.
Making the Pro Bowl
- Two players made the Pro Bowl: DE Myles Garrett and CB Denzel Ward.
- Garrett is 6th in the NFL with 12.5 sacks and 4th in the NFL with 27 quarterback hits. I would still like to see him utilized a bit more on the other side of the line or inside throughout the game, but he has stayed healthy in 2018, a big key for him.
- Ward’s inclusion is a bit more surprising — not because he hasn’t been good, but because I think to myself, “Really? The AFC must not have a ton of top-tier cornerbacks.” The rookie has missed the past couple of games due to a concussion, but forced a lot of turnovers early in the season.
- It’s great to see two of the Browns’ high draft picks over the past two years (No. 1 overall in 2017 and No. 4 overall in 2018, respectively), pan out.
Other Notes
- QB Baker Mayfield is a fourth alternate for the AFC.
- RB Nick Chubb is a second alternate for the AFC.
- WR Jarvis Landry is a third alternate for the AFC.
- LG Joel Bitonio is a first alternate for the AFC.
- RG Kevin Zeitler is a fourth alternate for the AFC.
- P Britton Colquitt is a second alternate for the AFC.
There was no love for MLB Joe Schobert this year, but that may have been due to him missing several games midseason. Safety Damarious Randall, who started the season strong, also did not receive any support.
The 2019 Pro Bowl will be in Orlando on January 27. ABC will televise the action.
