Chiefs opt to give younger players snaps against Seahawks

The Chiefs dropped their fourth game of the season on Sunday Night.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 38-31, on Sunday Night Football, dropping to 11-4 on the season.

Takeaways, in no particular order:

• Your running back breakdown for offensive snaps was Damien Williams with 39 snaps, Charcandrick West with 19 snaps and Darrel Williams with three snaps. Darrel injured his hamstring in the game.
• Although he was active, Cam Erving didn’t play as he still recovers from the knee injury. Jeff Allen played in his place at left guard. Right tackle Mitch Schwartz kept his career snap streak alive by playing 100 percent of snaps on offense even though he had a knee issue leading up to the game.
• Kelvin Benjamin actually saw less time on the field than last week, with 10 offensive snaps. He was on the field for 12 plays on Thursday night against the Chargers.
• The two iron men for the defense were Daniel Sorensen and Steve Nelson, who played 100 percent of plays. S Ron Parker was a healthy scratch and cornerback Orlando Scandrick did not see the field. S Eric Murray only saw one snap on defense.
• After playing only 30 defensive snaps last week, safety Eric Berry was on the field for 69 snaps, or 86 percent.
• Rookie cornerbacks Charvarius Ward (79 defensive plays for 99 percent) and Tremon Smith (55 plays for 69 percent) saw extensive time. Asked about it after the game, head coach Andy Reid said he wanted to get a look at the younger players.
• Safety Jordan Lucas actually got back on the field—he had 12 defensive snaps. Inside linebacker Dorian O’Daniel saw the field for 16 snaps.
• Your outside linebacker breakdown for defensive snaps was Justin Houston with 78 snaps, Dee Ford with 73 snaps and Breeland Speaks with nine snaps. Tanoh Kpassagnon only played special teams.
• Special-teams standouts for Sunday (18 or more special-teams snaps): LB Frank Zombo (28), S Eric Murray (27), LB Ben Niemann (27), TE Demetrius Harris (24), FB Anthony Sherman (22), WR Marcus Kemp (20), Dorian O’Daniel (19), S Jordan Lucas (12), Tremon Smith (18)
