Eagles Injury Report: Carson Wentz sits out, Avonte Maddox returns

Update on Philadelphia’s injury situation.

The Philadelphia Eagles released their first official injury report on Wednesday in advance of their Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Carson Wentz did not participate in practice, as expected. There’s a report out there that he might not play again during the 2018 season. At the very least, it looks like Nick Foles will start in L.A. this weekend.

In addition to Wentz, six other players did not practice: Timmy Jernigan, Jordan Hicks, Lane Johnson, Sidney Jones, Michael Bennett, and Isaac Seumalo.

Jernigan continues to deal with back issues coming off his offseason surgery, which isn’t encouraging. If he can’t play, the Eagles will be down to just Fletcher Cox, Haloti Ngata, Treyvon Hester, and Bruce Hector at defensive tackle once again.

It looks like Hicks could be out for another game. He hasn’t been able to play since Week 11.

Johnson’s been dealing with ankle and knee injuries this season but he’s listed as missing practice due to personal reasons. He should be ready to play.

Doug Pederson described Jones as “day-to-day.” He clearly couldn’t run in the Cowboys game. I’d be surprised to see him play. It could be Rasul Douglas and De’Vante Bausby starting on the outside against Sean McVay’s offense.

Bennett has been able to play despite not practicing much in recent weeks. Based on that trend, one would expect he’ll be good for Sunday’s game.

Seumalo got hurt in the Eagles’ loss to the Cowboys. Stefen Wisniewski will be tasked with blocking Aaron Donald if Seumalo can’t play. Yikes.

In a bit of good news, rookie defensive back Avonte Maddox was welcomed to practice for the first time since getting hurt in Week 11. He was limited. It’s unclear if Maddox will play at safety, cornerback, or both upon returning to the field. The guess here is that he’ll be predominantly playing on the back end of the defense.

Jason Peters is not listed on the injury report for the first time in a bit. The starting left tackle had missed a number of sessions due to personal reason in recent weeks, though he hadn’t missed significant game action.
