Falcons vs. Buccaneers: Who are you signing from Tampa Bay’s 2019 free agent class?

There are a handful of very good, very young players the Falcons might be interested in.

We head into the final week of the season with a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s very possible that half the NFC South will change out a head coach this season, and no team is more likely to do so than the Bucs, who have been crushing disappointments year after year after year.

The Bucs also have a lot of decisions coming up this offseason, regardless of what they do with their staff. Some of their key players in 2018 are free agents, including left tackle Donovan Smith, on-and-off-again starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, longtime and aging cornerback Brent Grimes, and frequent starting running back Peyton Barber. The question for the final time this season is who you would take out of their impending crop of free agents, if you had your selection and your druthers.

For me, the choices come down to either Kwon Alexander or Donovan Smith. Alexander has been struggling with health to a disconcerting degree over the last two seasons, playing in just a combined 18 games, but he’ll just be turning 25 in August of next year and is an effective linebacker who could definitely get significant run in Dan Quinn’s defense. If the injury reduces his price and the Bucs move on with a new coaching staff coming in, I’d definitely kick the tires.

Smith is an above average left tackle who is still quite young (25 years old) and would be a pipe dream fit at right tackle to replace Ryan Schraeder and stave off the possibility of Ty Sambrailo, Week 1 starter on the right side. Given his likely price tag, though, it really is a pipe dream. Either one of those players would be a young, capable upgrade over what the team currently has in-house, however.

So no, no Brent Grimes reunions here, sorry.

Take a gander at the list of impending free agents and let us know who you’d take.
