Here are some suggestions when trying to beat the odds.
Before the thirteenth Sunday of the 2018 NFL regular season kicks off, let’s have some fun by taking a look at the spreads for today’s games. (Click here for NFL Week 13 picks without regard to the spread.)
Here are suggestions when trying to beat the odds. You can find all of today’s NFL betting lines and over/unders via SB Nation’s odds page. My season record so far is 81-92-3 after going 10-5 last week. Can I reach .500 by the end of the year? Does anyone care?
NFL Week 13 Games
Arizona Cardinals at Green Bay Packers (-14): It’s been an uneven season for the Packers but they’ve able to take care of business against bad teams at Lambeau (22-0 over Buffalo, 31-12 over Miami). PICK: Packers -14
Cleveland Browns at Houston Texans (-7): The Texans have won eight in a row, sure, but a number of those wins have been by the skin of their teeth. It feels like Houston is due for a letdown at some point. The Browns could seize the moment here. At the very least, I think it’s another close game for Houston. PICK: Browns +7
Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons (0): The Ravens have been rolling lately despite the fact Lamar Jackson isn’t posting great passing numbers. Atlanta might be able to capitalize on his turnovers. I like the home team here in a pick’ em scenario. PICK: Falcons (0)
Carolina Panthers (-3) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The fraudulent Panthers have lost three in a row. I don’t think they’re bad enough to make it four; the Bucs are still worse. Carolina beat Tampa just a few weeks ago, 42-28. I’ll say the Cats get the season sweep. PICK: Panthers -3
Chicago Bears (-3.5) at New York Giants: I don’t care that it’s Chase Daniel starting for Chicago. The Giants stink. PICK: Bears -3.5
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins (-3.5): Are the Bills going to win three in a row? I’m tempted but I just have that kind of confidence in them. I’ll be safe and go with Miami and then regret being too conservative later on. PICK: Dolphins -3.5
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals (-5.5): Why are the Bengals favored by this much? They’ve looked awful lately. The Broncos, meanwhile, rank sixth overall in DVOA. The points seem like a no brainer in this situation. PICK: Broncos +5.5
Los Angeles Rams (-10) at Detroit Lions: The Lions passed on Aaron Donald to draft Eric Ebron, whom they cut earlier this year, in the 2014 NFL Draft. Donald is going to really make them feel the pain of that mistake on Sunday. Detroit could’ve been the team to have Donald and Ndamukong Suh. PICK: Rams -10
Indianapolis Colts (-4) at Jacksonville Jaguars: The Colts are red hot. Why would I bet against Frank Reich? PICK: Colts -4
Kansas City Chiefs (-15.5) at Oakland Raiders: I’m fearful that this could be the classic Andy Reid letdown game. With that said, the Raiders are just awful and the Chiefs still should have a great offense without Kareem Hunt. PICK: Chiefs -15.5
New York Jets at Tennessee Titans (-8): How could you possibly want to bet on the Titans? You never know what you get from them on a week-to-week basis. I’ll only take them here because the J-E-T-S have been very bad. PICK: Titans -8
Minnesota Vikings at New England Patriots (-5): I’d be shocked if the Vikings go into New England and come out with the win. Maybe they find a way to cover but I’ll take Tom Brady over Kirk Cousins any day. PICK: Patriots -5
San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks (-10): The 49ers are probably the worst team in the league right now. It should be a long day for Nick Mullens at CenturyLink Field. PICK: Seahawks -10
Los Angeles Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers (-3):
Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles (-7): The Eagles are not trustworthy enough to take them by a full touchdown. They might very well win this game but one can’t just assume they’ll cover. PICK: Washington +7
