Packers RB Aaron Jones likely to miss rest of 2018 with MCL sprain

Though Aaron Jones’ injury doesn’t appear serious, the Packers running back will likely not play again in 2018.

The Green Bay Packers saw more than their playoff hopes dashed during a 24-17 loss to the Chicago Bears. Star running back Aaron Jones suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss the majority of the game. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jones sprained his MCL and could miss some time.

Fortunately for Jones and the Packers, the knee sprain doesn’t appear serious. The running back suffered a similar injury around this time last season and didn’t experience any issues upon his return. That Jones avoided a serious injury bodes well for next year. However, given the timing of the injury and Green Bay’s elimination from postseason contention, he will most likely sit out the final two games of 2018.

With Jones on the shelf, Green Bay’s backfield currently consists of Jamaal Williams and the recently promoted Dan Vitale. As such, the team will likely add a running back to the rotation. The Packers have tailback Lavon Coleman available on their practice squad. They could also look to reacquire Darius Jackson who spent time with the team earlier in the season and currently resides on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.

Even if Jones does not take another snap in 2018, he will finish the year as the Packers’ leading rusher with 728 yards and eight touchdowns. Jones also caught 26 passes for 206 yards and another score.
