The Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles face a serious challenge on the offensive side of the ball on Sunday. The 7th ranked DVOA defense of the Houston Texans’ defense boasts a loaded and disruptive front seven and their success starts with their run defense.
The Texans defense ranks 2nd in DVOA against the run, they allow they least yards per carry, least yards per carry on the road, least yards per carry on 1st & 10, the least amount of 10-plus and 20-plus yard runs, and the third least amount of rushing touchdowns.

In the last three games, including against the Indianapolis Colts who run a good deal of the same concepts, the Texans are allowing only 2.7 yards per carry. We all know about Jadeveon Clowney and JJ Watt, but the Texans are getting significant contributions against the run from DJ Reader, Brandon Dunn, and Benardrick McKinney among others. That’s a long way to say that their run defense is very, very good.
