Pro Football Focus Grades Texans In Win Over Jets

Pro Football Focus has inside information on how individual Houston players performed in the team’s win over the J-E-T-S.

Pro Football Focus grades every player on every play in every game. I dig their raw number totals and have other opinions on their ability to grade individual plays. You may feel differently. No matter how you feel, there’s always something to learn from the work they do. This is what PFF had to say about the Texans’ win over the Jets.

OFFENSE:

—People may be quick to blame the offensive line because Deshaun Watson was under fire frequently against the Jets, but it was more due to the fact he was blitzed 17 times. The line as a whole was only responsible for nine total pressures, and all of them earned pass-blocking grades of above-average, led by Julie’n Davenport (81.7). Watson was credited with one of his sacks and five total pressures on the day.

DeAndre Hopkins was a one-man army on Saturday, accounting for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He produced a 93.5 overall grade for his efforts, which ranks first among all wide receivers in Week 15. He averaged 17.0 yards per reception and Watson had a perfect passer rating when targeting him.

DEFENSE:

—Benardrick McKinney earned his highest grade of the season (90.3) with an impressive outing versus the Jets. He broke up the only target that was thrown his way and he amassed six tackles, four assisted tackles and four defensive stops. He rushed the passer only three times but generated two pressures on those attempts.

D.J. Reader was Houston’s other highest-graded defender behind McKinney, playing 45 snaps and earning an 89.4 overall grade. In his time on the field, Reader was extremely productive, tallying four pressures, four defensive stops, four tackles and two assisted tackles to go along with an 82.8 run-defense grade.
